🎮 freelance game sound designer & technical implementation 🔊 🎤 working on Spider Lily, Fame or Folly, and an unannounced project 👾 🐦 making a pigeon tamagotchi like game 🕹️ 🌈 they/them 💜 🎧 www.ashleywills.co.uk 🖥️

Implemented the ability to layer an extra sound that changes depending on the card rarity when opening a pack. Haven't made the sound yet so just pulled from some dev sounds I recorded of me counting. No need for gen AI, obviously a placeholder. Anyone else got examples of their placeholders?

I think I just saw the epitome of a straight man at a comedy club. Guy only makes “jokes” about gay sex and then bullies an audience member for the whole show & being sexually aggressive towards him. Ends with the comedian stripping down to his underwear, rubbing his body towards the audience member

Amnesty International put out a major report documenting the influence of UK based anti trans gender critical organizations and their funding. Within hours, GC groups threatened defamation lawsuits and Amnesty was forced to pull it down. Proving the point they're anti rights. Anyways, here it is.

It's a common myth that "lights in computer games consume real electricity." This is technically true, but unlike real lights, they only do this when you are looking at them.

The way that reactionary players assume that sensitivity consulting agencies are something that come into a project like an invader and demand changes to some pure artistic vision, instead of being something that the developers planned for and deliberately invited in to get their feedback.

- asset reuse == lazy - that DLC comes from taking content already planned for the base game and cutting it out for a quick cash grab - perf problems are because the programmers didn’t “optimize,” whatever players think that means - that studios can freely release the code and assets to older games

Most bugs you experience are known but there just wasn't time. Some bugs you experience already have a fix that just couldn't be tested in time to roll out. Rushing things risks causing more issues than it fixes. Also unless you are a programmer, you don't really know what a "game engine" is.

That the devs are lazy. The devs may be idiots, ignorant, naive, or hopelessly optimistic. That totally happens. But it's very rare that something that ships in a game is bad because nobody cared to make it good.

game devs: what are the myths that a lot of players of games think are true about making games that are completely untrue? If you could snap your fingers and they suddenly all knew the truth about it what would it be?

Do you think the people who post no-commentary playthrough footage of video games on youtube realize how much they're load-bearing infrastructure for everyone doing UI/UX (and adjacent) game design work
