Yeah, this. It's too easy to grant yourself a moral license for bad behavior when you self-identify as an kind of "good person." Just try to do good things and let others be the judge of whether that makes you a good ally or not.

I feel like 'ally' should be one of those things other people say about you rather than something you claim yourself.

I dream of a utopia where all children are born from synthetic uterine replicators and raised communally. Genetic selfishness will not be tolerated there. "But Colin, I have an overwhelming feeling of love when I hold my children!" We can replicate that feeling chemically. It's much more efficient.

I've heard it described as "the American gentry" and it forms the backbone of conservative politics in the United States. We need more politicians who are willing to pound the podium and talk about how we're going to break this policial class' stranglehold on rural power.

Most rural areas have a ruling class. And they want cheap unfree workers & to pass their fiefdoms on tax-free forever. It ain't rocket science. The fact that we're scared to talk about THAT, ime, is what's costing us a lot of rural voters!

If you are a conservative and want to salvage something of that ideology, you must also support the eradication of the Republican Party and American Conservatism as if presently exists. They are the enemy of small government, human liberty, peace and thriving.

Related: the belief that stupid people tend to be bigoted is a reversal of cause and effect. Prejudice makes people stupider, because they'll be less inclined to learn from anyone they consider lesser, and resistant to data that contradicts their prejudices.

I’d say “Marathon” but we got another sequel recently after decades of that series lying fallow. Admittedly, it was a huge departure from the originals in terms of gameplay and tone, even if it technically exists in the same universe. But the original was a landmark for its time.

The main way in which AI has negatively impacted games industry jobs is not through actual automation of those jobs or even untrue claims about automation. It's by making capital unavailable because it's tied up in AI investments while also destroying the consumer base for video game hardware.

my belief is that at the end of the day, great games are made by groups of people who have high trust with each other & can fluidly execute a shared vision. which is a small part of why these layoffs are so devastating- it's not just about jobs, it's about these "trust structures" being torn apart.

Honestly? I'd nationalize Palantir. Just seize it with federal force, then use it to scan people's metadata for those who look like they've gone down right-wing rabbit holes, then stage an intervention. Have agents devoted to the task, contact friends and family to get their buy-in, then do it.

Same. I mean, I automate things for a living. I think saving labor is Good, Actually. But I do the things I do to take the tedious and repetitive tasks out of the need for labor. That way, labor can be spent on other, more interesting things, that require more creative and lateral thinking.

im pretty far on the anti-AI and LLM end of the spectrum, but you have to constantly think critically and reassert your reasons *why* you oppose it, otherwise you end up taking positions like "it's good to manually complete tasks which could be automated and doing avoidable work is virtuous"

Self-proclaimed centrists, as a class, seem far more preoccupied, not to say obsessed, with the flawed attempts to do good on their left than they are with the open, naked, ugly determination to do evil on their right. I would just like them to grapple with that fact, a little bit, for once.
