"We cannot afford to be frozen by fear, and perhaps more than anything else, we need the public demand for climate action to now accelerate, so we become a tipping point for the good instead."

"There can be no giving up because it is never too late to reduce emissions. We have to adapt to what is happening but still focus on reducing greenhouse gases – because no amount of adaptation will work if the underlying cause is left unaddressed." www.irishtimes.com/opinion/2026...
Eamon Ryan: Were this summer’s heatwaves caused by El Nino or something much more terrifying?
The scientist who first warned about climate change now says he was too optimistic - and this summer suggests he may be right

Yes! Also, electrify SMART. Then rebuild the RSR Bridge to allow SMART to connect to the Richmond Amtrak. 🤯 That sounds about right!
Electrify Capital Corridor!
I could see having this as a hard-to-remove sticker that could be strategically stuck on the driver-side window of an offensive motor vehicle.

This was me, after a particularly fruitless conversation with Garmin Customer Service about a heart rate monitor that failed just after the warranty had expired.
In celebration of #YorkshireDay, please enjoy this Sean Bean bastard collection. Sound up, bastards.
Increasingly seeing "it's too late, we failed" as an argument against climate action. But: a) While we haven't done nearly enough, we've made a lot of progress relative to the "just let fossil fuels rip" world of pre-2000; b) the more&faster we reduce climate pollution, the less bad things will get;
Today I learned that the NHS has "cycle responders" who are paramedics. One of my wife's coworkers was recently treated by one after collapsing in London. The bike, not surprisingly, responded much faster than the ambulance. Really cool! www.londonambulance.nhs.uk/calling-us/w...
As the UN Secretary General says, every new fossil fuel project approved today makes tomorrow’s heatwaves more dangerous & our world less secure. I hope Andy Burnham is listening. Caving in to the fossil fuel lobby as the planet burns would be unforgivable

I really need everyone to remember that the fossil fuel industry knew-knows exactly the climate hell we now inhabit, and are determined to make it FAR worse. That's because they have decided our lives are worth far less than their profits. We are not angry -or organised- enough.

If a climate scientist like @clairbarnes.bsky.social from @wwattribution.bsky.social says it's extremely scary how climate change is intensifying hot, dry, flammable conditions conducive to wildfires, you should probably be worried.
‘Extremely scary findings’ show climate crisis is supercharging Europe’s wildfire weather
Latest study says global heating has made hot, dry and windy conditions in Spain at least 20 times more likely

Bordeaux, France, has now recorded more days above 40°C in 2026 alone than during the entire 105-year period from 1920 (when observations began) to 2025. This is deeply shocking.
It’s weird how London has lots of tall buildings and yet their fire trucks are moderately sized. It’s as if truck size in America is just an ideological imperative.
Interesting choice to lead w/ “a sharply divided public” & CM O’Keefe’s statement that the plan is “madness.” I say this as a resident of D5, a senior citizen, someone who bikes to combat climate change, & as a customer of the businesses on Hopkins. CM O’Keefe DOES NOT represent my views. At all.
Despite a sharply divided public, Berkeley has approved protected bike lanes on Hopkins Street. CM Shoshana O'Keefe (who reps the district) called it "absolute madness." "This is about more than just a bike lane," countered CM Mark Humbert.
Remember when climate scientists said we should massively and rapidly reduce fossil fuel & meat emissions, or else? Or else 👇
Me, hopefully in the near future, when I forget a bottle opener while visiting my favorite Berkeley shops on Hopkins.
TFW your city council rep, an "avid cyclist," fails to stop the approval to build protected bike lanes by a vote of 7-2. A majority of Berkeley residents want safer streets, sidewalks, & bike lanes. Kudos to the mayor, members of council & everyone in the community who made this happen. 💪🏻
TFW you read an email from your city council member that ticks all the WRONG boxes. Rose & Ada Streets as viable bike routes - no Loss of parking hurts businesses - no A car is needed to shop on Hopkins - no No need to reduce VMT - ah, NO It’s clear my council member does not represent my views.
Without incentives, drivers won't follow the traffic regulations, obey the speed limit, etc. So if we’re not going to do any enforcement, then the remaining incentive is: To keep your driving privileges, you must successfully demonstrate knowledge, risk management, & skills on a regular basis.
💯 Pilots working for air carriers must demonstrate proficiency every 6 months. General Aviation pilots at least every 2 years (24 calendar months). Drivers ... 🤷🏻♂️
I biked and drove yesterday, and I’m more convinced than ever that driver’s licenses should be renewed annually with a driving test.
The flashing yellow lights, Virginia at MLK in Berkeley, not working working today. Here’s a photo from over a month ago. They weren’t working then either. Why haven’t they been fixed? Asking for a friend. @berkeleyca.gov
Could it be that Berkeley’s newly opened ped/bike crossing design, Adeline at Woolsey, is not working as planned? Cars are not supposed to turn left onto Woolsey, but crossing those double yellow lines painted on the pavement is apparently just too hard to resist. @cityofberkley.bsky.social
Somehow we need to monetise this - and quickly
No matter what errand you’re running in town, chances are you could do it by bike with the right kit! #bikesky #CarFree #CarryShitOlympics
Another way to say "It could result in 100 lost parking spaces" is "It could result in safer streets for all street users, including drivers."
Here’s the latest salvo in a battle that’s spanned two mayoral administrations and endured endless rhetoric about the war on cars. It could result in 100 lost parking spaces in Berkeley.
AC Transit should keep the focus on what matters to bus riders, not on recommendations from out of state consultants who fail to understand California law, elected boards, or governance. This embarrassing report never should’ve seen the light of day. Thank you for showing up to call out the BS!
After years of contentious relations between board members, a consulting group recommended changes to the transit agency’s meetings. The response was overwhelmingly negative.
Yesterday afternoon 14:09 in Lacanau Océan in France. A pale red sun through the smoke tinged everything in Mars style orange. Welcome in the climate emergency! Despite all denial of the fossil fuel lobby, it’s scientific fact: CO2 emissions heat up Earth & make fires worse. 🔥🔥🔥
