This Wednesday: join the mass lobby for trans rights at Parliament. Trans people’s legal protections are under attack. We need MPs to hear clearly that we will not accept rights being rolled back. THIS Wednesday, 1–5pm, Houses of Parliament www.transsolidarityalliance.com/mass-lobby-2...

Mass Lobby for Trans Equality - 9th September 2026

The law around trans equality is fundamentally broken. Government inaction is hanging trans people and organisations out to dry - with a confusing mess of challenging rules and lawfare.

The rollout of faith-based initiatives across US states from 1996-2009 led to increased church attendance among protestants, new faith-based organisations, & the hardening of views against abortion & homosexuality. The rest of the population continued to secularise. cepr.org/voxeu/column... #EconSky

The figure shows event-study estimates of church attendance for Protestants and non-Protestants, relative to the year before a state’s first faith-based initiative.

The White House Faith Office is expanding federal support for religious organisations. Can government policy change how religious citizens are, and what does blurring the line between church and state do to attitudes and polarisation? Exploiting the staggered rollout of ‘faith-based initiatives’ across US states from 1996 to 2009, this column shows that church attendance rose sharply among Protestants, new faith-based organisations multiplied, and social views hardened against abortion and homosexuality, while the rest of the population continued to secularise.

We find that social stigma against working mothers accounts for around 73% of the gap in working hours between East and West German mothers — even when working would be financially better off for the family.

📖 World of Labour - New opinion piece "The social norms that keep West German mothers at home" by @bastiencf.bsky.social, Z. Iftikhar, J. Park. Why do #EastGerman mothers work ~2 mos./yr. than #WestGerman ones? The answer may lie in reg’l #SocialNorms, not incentives. 🔗 wol.iza.org/opinions/soc...

Forthcoming in AEJ: Applied Economics “University as a Melting Pot: Long-term Effects of Internationalization” Debates on international students often focus on capacity, funding, or competition. My paper shows the main effects on natives are not academic or economic, but social.

Is there a name for that colleague who "replies to all" using the email just before the one you sent, thus making your answer really difficult to find in the thread? Bonus point if they use that message to suggest exactly what you were recommending ;-/ #AcademicSky

The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.
