The left has a very flawed theory of politics. They can win a primary, but there's zero evidence to date that their ideas can win a general election outside strongly Dem areas. They're chasing the white no college voters who are the Republican base and are terrible at coalition building.

May be wrong here, but my sense is there is a whole media apparatus that aggressively screens Dem candidates and cautions voters not to support the more left-wing candidate. And this is asymmetric. Credible media messengers don't police right-wing candidates the same way.
