This city is just this meme on every issue. The only acceptable place for young folks & new neighbours in our city according to NIMBYs is cramming into basement suites or on slow buses from surrey or Langley. We will never solve this country's housing crisis and traffic will just get worse.

The Vancouver Villages plan was defeated. This is a huge blow to housing policy in the city. This was the easiest part of the Vancouver Plan to implement; Ken Sim directed staff to prioritize it. If we can't pass this, what's the point of any of it? All housing policy work here is in limbo.

Everyone loves large planning exercises like the Vancouver Plan. But when it's time for implementation people get cold feet. Even though the Villages is probably the mildest portion of the overall plan. Will the Vancouver Plan suffer the same fate as City Plan in the 1990s and just fizzle?

The Villages Plan is not that controversial & Council should approve all 17 villages. There was not that much opposition considering most complaints were poorly founded & the result of NIMBY fear-mongering. For comparison, consider 1805 Larch, ONE 5-storey apartment building.

In opposing the Villages Plan, Vancouver mayor Ken Sim’s ABC party repeatedly seems to conflate legalizing more apartments with *forcing* people to build apartments on their property or something?

It's not just a win for Toronto, but also a huge win for the chronically online to policy influencer pipeline.

I miss when Google was able to accurately pull summaries using Wikipedia, edited by humans and accurate or at least close to accurate depending on what it cut out. Now if you ask about something it hallucinates an answer that's wrong much of the time, especially if it's not something american.

I think there is something to explore that many nations at the WBC have come showing what they love about their country (dancing, celebration, tradition) to represent the people while the American team has shown up representing and only celebrating the military
