It's remarkable that this is a real thing because it sounds so much like a narrative device used to increase the stakes of the most precarious moment of the entry. Why do we have 8 minutes of tense silence? Y'know, hot plasma! It blocks the signals!

Right now the #Artemis II capsule is engulfed in hot plasma as it plunges through the atmosphere and will be out of communication for another 3 minutes. Holding my breath.

i think it is good and fulfilling to sometimes do difficult, challenging, frustrating things with the goal of making something worthy, or bettering yourself. some people, it seems, believe that we should strive for a future where nothing is ever hard for anyone they consider people.

can’t count the number of times I’ve arrived at a conclusion much better than I originally intended simply by writing. having the hazy outline of an idea and then foisting the rest onto a machine means you never get there. worse, you never develop the instincts or faculties necessary to get there

I am still thinking about how Alex Pretti was out there directing traffic, waving cars through. A instinctive, quintessentially Dad Response to any kind of commotion happening on the block—to go out and help a little, in a small way. To make sure no one gets unnecessarily hurt.

signs left at alex pretti’s memorial in minneapolis: “i love you so much / i’ll miss you forever” photo with a friend, “i would have done the same. RIP alex,” a stethoscope and “we’ll take it from here, alex” and a tshirt for the minnesota nurses association
