A focus on affordability for the working class with a promise to ban datacenters is how Democrats win in the heartland cindyforkansas.com
Quite an upset in the #KSGov Dem primary. State Sen. Cindy Holscher, who came out against data centers and the Kansas City Chiefs stadium deal, has defeated state Sen. Ethan Corson, who had a big financial edge and an endorsement from term-limited Gov. Laura Kelly.

I used this new protected lane today for the first time and it’s a game changer. It makes getting uptown so so so much easier.
It’s still in construction, but I think this is the furthest I’ve ever biked on Franklin Street without having to leave the bike lane to avoid a parked vehicle. Painted to protected conversions FTW!

Free transfers from BART to AC Transit has encouraged me to take the bus more But two cancelled buses in a row with the next bus in 43 minutes means another $2.50 Bay Wheels trip
I love being in Oakland and encountering a protected bike lane project that I've never heard of, let alone had to fight over for years
Indeed this Franklin St road diet & concrete protected bikeway in Downtown Oakland was constructed in a few months w no CEQA, no council approval, no long series of community meetings required. Our bike/walk infra committee reviewed some early designs but that’s it! bsky.app/profile/prin...
The California Democratic Party has officially endorsed a one-time, 5% wealth tax on billionaires that will be on the ballot this November. They're right to support it — and Gavin Newsom is wrong to oppose it. Here's why.

Thank you Oakland DOT for painting speed limit markings on the pavement at 7th St & on Broadway around the speed cameras, per my suggestion. The purpose of the camera program is to slow drivers, not to write tickets. So this helps make the 20 mph limit much more visible & hopefully help calm speeds
One of the biggest gaps in California transit right now is the lack of a cohesive intercity network. The Gold Runner already coordinates with lots of regional partners – build on those relationships and add more partners, and such a network begins to take shape! cal.streetsblog.org/2026/08/04/g...

Cold urbanist take: ban right turns on red lights Hot urbanist take: ban left turns on unprotected greens
This is actually how I both drive a car and ride a bike. On a bike, making a left turn is often impossible (so I don't do it) and in a car it's often unsafe (so I don't do it).
hotter urbanist take: we should ban left turns *completely* in many places. of all traffic signal phases, left turns are the least productive and serve the least amount of people. they dont work well with median BRT/LRT & transit signal priority, and it limits crossing times for all pedestrians.
The effective federal corporate income tax rate: 1950: 50% 1990: 25% 2020: 13% Stop asking "but how we will pay for it?" Restore the corporate tax rate. That is how we will pay for it.
When I managed the East Bay's bike ed program Lyft was required to sponsor some classes. I had to force them to allow us to do multi-lingual English/Spanish & fund adult learn-to-ride sessions not only cheaper 1-hr webinars. I also demanded that we only reference the Bay Wheels branding not "Lyft".
San Francisco’s regional bike share system Bay Wheels rebrands to Lyft Bike, as 1,000 new bikes and two new models prepare for service. Read more: zagdaily.com/micromobilit...
You know your regulators have been captured by industry lobbyists when they haven't forced a recall for attempting to drive over train tracks when a train is coming

one policy debate we deserve but are never going to get to have is what demands to be done to make blue states and cities whole after this presidency
There are more people in the @rideact.bsky.social and @sfmta.com buses in this pic than in all the cars. If we don't pass the Regional Transit Measure this November we're going to have less bus service throughout the Bay and traffic (and air quality) will get worse for all
The diarrhea lettuce company, Taylor Farms, uses slave labor contracted from the Arizona Dept. of Corrections. The backbreaking labor is often performed by imprisoned Mexican nationals who would be otherwise ineligble to work in the US. They are paid $1.50 an hour.
The Diarrhea Lettuce Company Has Been Linked to Forced Labor
The lettuce-producing Taylor Farms was linked to the widespread use of prison labor before its involvement in a cyclospora outbreak.

It would be pretty nifty if AC Transit ran a couple extra buses at Ballers game start time to increase headways to 10m instead of 30m
The Larkspur Ferry / SMART timings (north & southbound) still suck and need to be fixed. This level of schedule coordination -- regular 30 and 40 minutes waits between ferry arrival and SMART departure -- isn't excusable. Golden Gate Transit's 101 in San Rafael does significantly better.
It is completely unacceptable to close the only bike lane on Embarcedero with no safe protected bypass Especially just to add a redundant parking lane @sfmta.com If curbside access is needed to Ferry Building then repurpose a redundant vehicle lane as a safe bike bypass
There are service reductions with delays up to 30 mins starting tonight between Millbrae, SFO and San Bruno No advisories in the app yet to alert riders who aren't following BART on social media
Reminder: Starting tonight at 9pm through the end of revenue service (midnight) on Sunday, August 2, service will be reduced from two tracks to one between Millbrae, SFO, and San Bruno stations to enable crews to install critical components of a new train control system.
