I knew the real Rod Liddle, not the bigot he presented himself as in columns. Once, I witnessed him heroically running into a burning building to save those trapped inside. Unfortunately the building was a school and it wasn't on fire. He was trying to shag the kids.
Congrats to everyone who got a shoutout in the Telegraph today, although I don't know where they got the idea that Bluesky is a place where people are kind to each other. This is site is not kind. This is a PvP server where you get randomly matched with an American who has misunderstood your joke.

Boots theory is an elegant metaphor by a brilliant writer. It’s not an economics paper, but — within the imagined world of Ankh Morpork — it evokes a truth: being forced to buy cheap goods is more expensive in the long run. Hooting that it doesn’t apply to *boots* in our reality is crushingly dim.

Incidentally, it’s absolutely not and plenty of rabbis have condemned the behaviour. The BBC had to apologise last year for publishing a video via BBC Arabic that claimed it was a holiday tradition.

Snigdha@snig.bsky.social · 3d agoYour reminder Rod Liddle not only said he couldn't have become a teacher because he "could not remotely conceive of not trying to shag the kids" in The Spectator, but he also wrote laws banning child pornography are "absurd" in The Guardian. Abhorrent.
I booked Rod Liddle as a guest on a show, many years ago, just after he left Today and had started as a columnist. He was a massive arsehole from the moment he arrived till the moment he left. A character trait he went on to demonstrate publicly, in print and on screen till, well, today.
Fraser Nelson reckons Rod Liddle was “the greatest satirist since Swift” while Michael Gove is comparing him to not just Swift but Orwell. Amazing the comparisons you can get if you’ll pump out exactly the racist opinions even they are too squeamish to commit to print.
As Rod Liddle has died, I notice this column I wrote in 2019 about his attacks on people with M.E. is on the most read again. Rebekah Brooks, of News UK, described Liddle today as “provocative”. In reality, he spread lies about very sick people for cash. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

I will remember Rod Liddle for the fact that the lawyer who checked my book before publication had no issue with me writing that Liddle couldn’t be a teacher because he’d have had sex with the students. Why? Because Liddle wrote it in a national magazine.
Haters focusing on Liddle's violence toward his pregnant partner, his galloping racism, or his repeated defences of paedophilia, should remember to mention he was also one of the worst writers to ever do it. A calorie-free hack of the first water. Just absolute dogshit, back to front.
I do find the “he beat his pregnant wife and publicly fantasised about raping children but he liked football so he can’t be all bad” discourse both gross and revealing.

The funniest - and least discussed - aspect of this is that Farage, having reportedly told RefUK he'd only lead them if compensated for the £1m a year income he had outside politics, pocketed their five million, then kept earning from outside interests at the same rate anyway. He scammed even them.

Turns out this deal was struck mid-May (confirmed by RefUK) and facilitated by Farage's other big donor, convicted felon 'Posh' George Cotrell. 🧐
