I don’t think Tom emphasises enough how against the grain this and Morrison’s JLA stuff went against the grain in the edgelord 90s. And not in the having-it-both-ways sense of Kingdom Come and Infinite Crisis (or arguably their later Batman/Final Crisis work). It was a huge breath of fresh air
