The US built the greatest talent magnet ever, attracting the smart, skilled, and striving. They’d come to study, then stay and build things here, or leave with positive impressions and fruitful connections. Helped make the US wealthy and powerful. Then America chose to throw it away. And for what?

Congrats we just made it impossible to come here for a PhD www.bostonglobe.com/2026/07/16/m...

California is debating legislation right now that would ban all ICE employees from ever being hired by a public agency for life. This is good and next year's Democratic House needs to provide a full roster of ICE employees to help facilitate state efforts like this one.

Hungary’s new government also passed this constitutional amendment to “remove Constitutional Court judges who are over the age of 70.”

ICE plays no vital role in public safety. DOJ handled INS which oversaw the border patrol. Treasury oversaw Customs. The Coast Guard thrives no matter who oversees them. The consolidation & creation of enforcement agencies have been abused since DHS inception. All cost. No benefit.

Senator Susan Collins: "There's no doubt that ICE needs to improve its performance, but those who are calling for ICE to be abolished are ignoring absolutely vital safety work that ICE does."

A reminder that the MAGA regime ordered the newly destroyed CDC to cut the tracking of the parasite causing explosive diarrhea all around the country not long before the outbreak. These fascists want us all poor, sick and dead.

I am visualizing all of the 🌍 ‘s wildlife descending on DJT & co, just as happened in Tennessee Williams’ Suddenly Last Summer. Why? www.nytimes.com/2026/07/10/c... (Most excellent production, now at Bard College, will be elsewhere for sure.)

The rule change ends a safeguard that had been in place for 50 years and could hasten the demise of imperiled animals.

Things that I liked (non political) today: — that the 4 breakaway riders were able to dispute for the S9 TDF 🏆 — MVDP & TP are 2 of my 💕 riders: MVDP & the amazing TP fixing his stuck ⚙️ & gunning it back to be in the group — keeping hope alive for a TP top 10 & stage win 🙏

Celebrated 🎉 and was pleased that I outlived one of my truly awful abusive cheating former “work” colleagues when he drowned. Schiff is such a disappointment. As a CA Senator, he doesn’t have any reason to spout this obvi platitudinous BS. Disrespecting his constituents.

What I’ll remember most about Senator Graham was his sense of humor and how he deployed it to move his policy positions forward. Though we did not often agree, Senator Graham was never disagreeable.

I have a decades long track record of celebrating 🎉 the death of work & volunteer project “colleagues” who did me and/or others grave harm out of intentional acts. Sticking with that. I recommend it ✅

I had the privilege of working with Senator Dracula on my bill offering tax cuts to family-owned mortuaries. While we disagreed on much and his horrible embrace has left me unable to endure sunlight, I'll always remember his amusing little jokes about exsanguinating my staff.

I’m saddened to announce the passing of my work colleague, The Zodiac Killer. While we were often on opposing sides of the business, I always enjoyed his silly little scavenger hunts.

In @nytopinion.nytimes.com “The eastern halves of the United States and Canada are experiencing a sea change in the public health threat posed by ticks,” Jonathan Mingle writes in a guest essay. “Humans are in retreat from this bloodthirsty enemy.”

Opinion | We’re Living in a Tick Nightmare. It’s Time to Go to War.

With ticks, we’ve barely begun to fight back. The longer we wait, the more territory they will claim across both our geographic and psychic maps.

For folks asking why bother commenting because the OMB won't care: comments help build cases for the courts by explicitly laying out harms. That's why it's really important to have your comments be as specific as possible. Also, contact your senators and reps! They actually do care about this.

Monday is the deadline for public comment! The Heritage Foundation has been mobilizing its members to leave comments in favor of the rule change, so every unique comment matters (don’t use a form letter or copy/paste—similar comments are batched and treated as one).

Kentucky Voter on Mitch McConnell: Your retirement is long overdue. Give it up. We don't want you. You're not representing us well, so don't represent us at all.

a different lens is that everyone is labor or capital. doctors, lawyers, tech, these are all labor and have more in common with housekeepers and factory workers than they do with capital. the other distinctions are a distraction. we should all be united against capital.

Few patients appeal a health insurance denial, but a little-known process that requires insurers and plans to seek an independent opinion can force insurers to pay for what can be lifesaving treatment. Here’s what experts say you need to know.

This Little-Known Appeal Could Force Your Insurer to Pay for Lifesaving Care. Here’s How to File It.

It's been fun watching I Love New York guys Adams and Cuomo scamper the fuck away to be full-time pieces of shit, proving everything everyone ever said about them 100% completely correct and making everyone who ever supported them look like the unprincipled jackasses they are

The former governor’s new job is to help OKX and the owner of the New York Stock Exchange tokenize traditional financial instruments—which may raise serious ethics concerns if it seeks approval from New York state regulators.

I’d be very happy to see NYPD’s lame-o Jessica Tisch take a looong holiday. And Julie Menin can join her. Pfft. We can do so much better.
