East Bay Bicycle Coalition (now @bikeeastbay.bsky.social) formed in 1972 largely to advocate for bikes on BART. Bike East Bay’s office was the busiest hub in the entire Bay Area to pick up and drop off @connectbayarea.bsky.social petitions. Bike advocates ARE transit advocates.

Why isn't there more money and advocacy for urban buses and light rail? Everyone points to cities with strong bike culture, but they're most successful where reliable, fast, efficient mass transit reduces the need to have a car first.

The Bay Bridge's bike/ped path turns 13 today! This trail was named after Alexander Zuckerman, Bike East Bay's founder. We're grateful for the access it brings, but also aware of the gaps that still exist. Bike/ped access on the West Span is long overdue. Sign our petition to get things moving!

Excellent news! Give the governor a call and urge him to sign this. We need to clearly separate legitimate e-bikes, which are crucial to building a better future, and illegal e-motorcycles that generate the vast majority of the complaints of too fast riding. This is the sole e-bike bill to support.

The California Bicycle Coalition today celebrates the full legislative approval of AB 2168, authored by Assemblymember Buffy Wicks and sponsored by CalBike, sending the bill to Governor Gavin Newsom for his signature.

It’s not noted in the article but unlike EVs our extensive e-bike charging infrastructure also already exists, via any wall outlet. No further municipal investment required. It’s been mentioned before, but e-bikes might be dismissed for government support *because* they’re so cost efficient.

SB 1167 is headed to the Assembly floor. Yesterday, the bill cleared Assembly Appropriations from the suspense file, another major step toward getting it through the Legislature.
