They recently suffered a historically terrible earthquake. Also we're sucking hundreds of billions of dollars out of their economy.

Very funny outcome if the AI data centers (1) wear out the gas power sector machinery faster than a counter factual scenario without them (2) hasten the transition off gas because of this (3) get banned nationally anyway and (4) cause a mass political awakening in its wake.

"Summers are hotter and drier, winters are warmer and fire weather will be increasingly common. For the protection of the state and its residents, policymakers must continue to take action, including investment, to reduce the risk of catastrophic fire." www.seattletimes.com/opinion/edit...

Spokane wildfires show growing risks must be met with vigilant action | Editorial

Gov. Bob Ferguson and state lawmakers must continue to fund proven measures that make communities safer from wind-driven wildfire.

Smoke has arrived in Seattle, but the other side of the Cascades is absolutely brutal. Wenatchee and other towns (e.g., Plain, Entiat) have been over 1,000 AQI today. Please use air purifiers, N95 masks, and avoid being outdoors if you’re able - there is no safe level of wildfire smoke exposure.

The wildfires in the Pacific NW are incredibly sad and devastating. We have to face the fact that a warming climate is unsustainable. As you can see, fires in the Pacific NW are getting much larger in recent decades. The largest fires (100K acres+) have increased by 10-15X since the 1980s. 1/

I just replaced the filters in our air purifiers and ordered another set, in what has become a grim annual ritual. Wildfires and smoke are a natural part of life in the Northwest, but the burning of fossil fuels has made these events larger, more frequent and severe.

Wildfire smoke from a trifecta of catastrophic wildfires will roll in Tuesday and could cause the air quality to be unhealthy and reduce visibility.

i don't know if people who don't live in the PNW are aware of this but there's like a regional conspiracy theory that's closely aligned with QANON and sort of holdover reactionary anti-BLM sentiment, the idea is that the fires are all arsons, all started by arsonists working for (((them))) etc

#OldTrailsFire in Spokane now appears to be most destructive wildfire in WA State history by wide margin (650+ structures lost), w/additional TBD losses nearby. Other PacNW fires actively burning, though less destructive, are far larger & could burn for weeks amid severe drought.

The Bench Fire tore through the Warms Springs Reservation, burning at least six homes and forcing hundreds to evacuate as roads closed and the air filled with thick smoke. The fire is now about one-third contained, but it will likely take years for the tribe to recover from the disaster.

Warm Springs Reservation faces years of recovery after Bench Fire sweeps through

Thousands in the Warm Springs reservation have been without power or clean water for nearly a week. As the government reopens they’re faced with rebuilding — even while the fire still burns.

Q: “Were we prepared for this?" A: “In a wind-driven event, there’s not a fire department in the country that could be ready for an event this size.” But also, there are hundreds of others through mutual aid. Planned preemptively given we knew the high risk.

The wildfires burning across northern and western Spokane are a sober reminder of both human resilience and systemic failure. What we are seeing tonight is not a challenge that local first responders, city hall, or individual homeowners can solve on their own.

OK, small point here, but it’s almost certain he meant “parameters of a deal,” but he can’t spell and is very dumb, so he used “perimeters of a deal” and news orgs are just running with it like that’s a perfectly normal thing to say, which it absolutely is not. That’s not a thing anybody says.
