Never forget this: The forces rigging our economy, undermining our democracy, polluting our planet, and stoking hatred are counting on you to give up. Cynicism is how they win. Stay clear-eyed and ready for the fight ahead.

“If immigration hadn't picked up my brother, my sister-in-law would still be alive, and the children wouldn't be going through this sorrow,” he said. “Unfortunately, immigration — the [U.S.] government — doesn't see that. It makes no difference to them.” www.stlpr.org/law-order/20...

On another dark day, our ICE-impacted Minneapolis neighbors could use a hand with their very-much ongoing recovery. We've received a large donation toward Aug rents, but the need is great and we'd really like to be able to meet a greater percentage of each ask from our school families.

Curious about how we can all play our part here in minimising our water usage during the hot dry spell. Don’t water garden ✅ Take shower not bath ✅ Close the drive thru car wash ❌ Throttle back the data centre ❌ seems a little one-sided….

Okay. This is a big deal for me Three years ago, writer Henry Bean told me he had a short story he'd finished in 2020, which he felt needed to be published He'd been turned down everywhere I read it I was stunned I took it to @jewishcurrents.bsky.social It's up now, and it will change you:

The Event

“Something has taken place that we cannot speak of or know or even fully perceive, yet the fact of which sits before us.”

This is maybe my most BlueSky take but… Sewage treatment plants are why most places have potable water. Sewage treatment = clean water. This is blue collar prejudice for an essential service underpinning daily life in much of the developed world. Signed, Son of a Septic Tank Pumper

Democrats should name things like sewage plants after him when they win the mid-terms.

No, Laura. It’s not “Antifa.” It was Patriot Front, a white nationalist organization. They covered their faces because they’re cowards who don’t want to be identified. We’ve been saying for over a year that ICE officers shouldn’t be allowed to wear masks either. They are cowards also.

A $3 @mta.info subway fare and some good Q train timing can buy you one hell of a view of the July 4th fireworks and the Brooklyn Bridge light show! Huge shoutout to the train operator for slow rolling over the Manhattan Bridge and the conductor for announcing it.

Eight months after the ceasefire, Israel is still blocking the importation of cement, steel and glass to Gaza. So, residents are building homes out of clay and mud, while scavenging reinforcing bars and concrete from the debris that is everywhere. giftarticle.ft.com/giftarticle/...

On Mercy Otis Warren, @kathleenduval.bsky.social is so good on how even powerful & privileged women fade into obscurity. My fav is @jcblibrary.bsky.social copy of MOW's 1775 scathingly satirical play The Group abt sycopahntic politicians annotated with all characters ID-ed. Beau Trumps, anyone?

Dramatis Persona on 18th c page with manuscript identifying each for ex Lord Chief Justice Hazelrod is noted as Judge Oliver.A statue of Mercy Warren is at the Barnstable County Courthouse, holding aloft a book! It was erected in 1991 and there is an annual Cape Cod woman of the year award named for her.

It’s been a long time coming… so thrilled to share the cover (and Oxford UP website last in 🧵) for my book, _Lineage: Genealogy and the Power of Connection in Early America_, pub date 7.2.25 (but will ship, so they say very enticingly, mid-June. 1/ #VastEarlyAmerica 🗃️

Book cover with various kinds of evidence of family history arrayed around the author and title, the latter is _Lineage: Genealogy and the Power of Connection in Early America_. The kinds of materials include printed texts, manuscripts, a red book (shhhhh that figures largely in the Introduction!), a watercolor family record, Fraktur, gravestone, and a sampler. One repeated text says "born free, born free (etc)"
