Not to go all "Big Burnham" but the GMCA fund is actually spectacular. Started in 2015 with £300mn in assets it's now worth c.£1.2bn having been recycled over and over through short and medium term loans that basically mean Manchester is on pace to actually meet its housing targets.

There is no plausible explanation for this other than the obvious. But to the NYT, "they're complaining on Bluesky again" is not a challenge, it's affirmation. It's the model working.

It's like being corrected over a mispronunciation of a name. Those making an honest mistake might feel embarrassed, but not generally annoyed or "policed" by the corrector. Those who *do* feel that way aren't making honest mistakes, they just don't think they should have to use right pronunciations.

Progressive change happened exactly because activists and politicians outpaced public opinion. Where progress happens public opinion follows suit. Waiting for public opinion is the death of progressive politics

This is the step many miss in this debate. It doesn't have to be no-free-speech vs anything-goes. There are many activities that we regulate more strictly when commercial. Rules are mostly different between doing-X and doing-X-for-money. Remove financial incentives and grifters will soon peel away.

We don't have to treat the monetisation of hate as an inevitable phenomenon. We can regulate platforms - not to supress speech, but to remove financial incentives.
