Cat owner, book addict, fabric hoarding nightmare.
I love that the media tries so hard to pivot away from the unfortunate nicknames Atlanta uses to differentiate most of the Kroger stores in the metro area. Headline: "Person dies after stabbing near Kroger on Atlanta Beltline" Translation to Atlanta: "Person murdered near Murder Kroger."
How do I explain to small business owners that the menu on the left is one billion times more appealing than the one on the right
Reposting for visibility for people in New England. Folks, if you or anyone you know are interested in taking in a pair of bonded older cats, here's a good option. Everyone gets excited about kittens, but older cats are lovely while also tending to be less prone to destroy your home.
UPDATE: Yes, their owner passed away Thursday. We're taking them in today, but as I said, that CAN'T be permanent; they NEED a HOME NOW. We're willing to drive pretty much anywhere in the Northeast for the right adopter. We're begging.
There's a subset of products that I'm pretty sure only exist due to a manufacturing error. They'll lose money no matter what, so may as well try to pass off their trash as an intentional creative new idea & hope that some idiots buy into it.
Absolutely not.
Did I just laugh out loud? Yes I did. Enjoy your safe booze and ultra processed foods, everyone and step away from the bagged salads, jalapeños, blueberries... I think I’ll have some Cheez-Its for lunch. 🙄
It only took 19 months for RFK Jr to turn the once safe US food supply into a game of gastrointestinal Russian Roulette.
The most popular genre of NYT oped is just "I'm a Member of [Demographic you Hate] and You're Right About Us"
lol come the fuck on
no one called it 'cutting off family' when these same parents threw their gay kids out of the house. wild how that works.

I realized yesterday that I probably have ADHD & have been unintentionally self medicating with high amounts of caffeine over the course of my entire life (exception being the past four and a half months, 100% decaf). I can't focus at all when I'm not caffeinated. I just have to laugh about it.

"If you were surprised by people using Meta’s smart glasses to harass and covertly film women on the street, then you quite simply haven’t been paying attention. This kind of tech-enabled abuse is commonplace, and it is predominantly aimed at women." www.irishtimes.com/technology/2...
Women continue to bear the brunt of bad tech decisions
Meta’s smart glasses are just the latest example of technology being used in ways developers should have anticipated

I was officially diagnosed with rosacea this morning. I'm strongly advised to avoid my triggers. My triggers are essentially every aspect of my life, so I'm apparently supposed to retire off to a humid cave somewhere, where I will eat nothing but bland room temperature food & have no emotions.
Taking meds for something you don't have means they hit differently than they would for someone who actually has a condition/disease. How the hell is this a news story?
Man without ADHD tries uppers for the first time: I mean honestly we're scraping the barrel on this now surely. I'm not diabetic. If I took insulin the affects would be far worse.
In light of yesterday's issues with the NWS software glitch delaying warnings being sent to cell phones, weather apps, media stations, etc, I highly recommend that people just get a NOAA/NWS weather radio and use it as the primary way you get weather warnings. The NWS radio network didn't fail.
most people would consider it in poor taste to do something to an author's work that said author would absolutely have sued over.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go to Petra, Jordan, in order to scream at tourists for disturbing the resting place of the Holy Grail. Ugh, you don't see this kind of shit from any other fandom other than HP fans. Sometimes, I genuinely wonder if some of them have a firm grasp of reality.
Harry Potter fans force power link diversion to avoid Dobby's grave
This thread is entirely too relatable. This is very much what my life has been like & it's exasperating that this is still a thing. Nobody is more entitled to be somewhere based on gender or sex. Assumptions based on either of those things are just wrong & need to stop. This never ending bs sucks.
I am a girl. I like reptiles and horror movies and science fiction and comics and TTRPGs, and for my entire life, every time I have entered a space, I have had to prove that I didn't "steal" it from the person* it rightfully belonged to. (*Boy, then man.)

Despite it being one of the easier things to do in the kitchen, for some reason I've psychologically latched onto the idea of roasting a full bird as proof of being capable in the kitchen. Just throwing a chicken in the oven is enough to make me feel like I'm "adulting" appropriately.
Really? Because I keep seeing them in charge of everything from car dealerships to the White House, and they seem to doing just fine despite their obvious handicaps.
19 year old me was informed that I "just didn't seem sick enough to have mono", so I asked, "if that's not it, what else has those symptoms?" "Ehhh, leukemia. I'll call you with your lab results." I got to sit with that for a few days, & then my doc called at dinner time on a Sunday. It was mono.
A question from Reddit that I'll answer here: "What's the most unhinged thing a doctor has said to you with a straight face?"
so i guess this morning i am just kind of meditating on the fact that when you reject AI as a creator you are not just bringing things back to the baseline, you are actually PUSHING in the other direction. you are opening space for human joy and creation and even income and that is so cool
we are just now starting the cover journey for my next traditionally published horror novel, and are working with an artist, and i just have so much gratitude in thinking 'how wonderful. i have my job, my editor has their job, my cover artist has their job, and ALL IN THE CREATIVE ARTS. heckin JOBS'
obviously not everyone is able to do this, but that is kind of my point. IT IS A GOAL TO BE ABLE TO GIVE, and AI is fundamentally ALL TAKE. when looking at my career i am just so honored to be like 'wow now this is big enough that i get to bring other creators along to join the fun'
obviously i think AI is an abomination. i have talked about this for a long time and will continue to do so, but today i was struck with something REALLY COOL that i do not think is discussed enough on the opposite end: the JOY and FULFILLMENT of being able to hire and work with human artists.
