President Trump has been asking advisers around him and on the phone whether Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth should stay in his job, following Republicans' catastrophic losses Tuesday night, multiple sources familiar with the matter.-CBS News
Trump's attempt at authoritarianism failed—and there is a better path ahead! Democrats should embrace this as a broad mandate to deliver a better future, more just, more equal, and more free. These election results are a chance to rewrite the future of America. My new essay:
My flabbers are gasted.
Voters gave America another chance last night.

I think we should offer thanks to all the Ds who stepped up and ran courageous races in the face of endless media naysaying, vicious GOP propaganda, and Musk-fueled derangement, thoughtfully creating a new politics that appealed to people's basic decency at an extremely trying time in American life.
"This is the collapse of the president's party" -- John King displays the House map as it's shaping up right now versus the current House to show how vast the Democratic pickups are
Jon Ossoff's message was very simple and consistent: Punish the fascists. I hope that national Democrats learn from him going into 2028.

I'll be writing more about this later, but the fact that there are no ICE (or other armed) federal agents at the polls and no federal takeover of elections is not because we are "lucky" or our system is "strong:" it took a ton of hard work from lawyers, election administrators and civil society.
"We are entering the last 2 years of the Trump era w/ the man who would be king not only a lame duck, but a desiccated & ever more reviled loser In retrospect, it was nearly inevitable that a POTUS who tried to seize dictatorial power over the govt by frontally attacking the govt would not succeed"
How Trump destroyed his own dictatorial ambitions
He burned down the government and self-immolated in the process.

Accidental banger of a reading list, tho. Current events in America are an incomprehensible mess of irrational behavior if you don't have some baseline knowledge of those subjects.
It was D, of course.

Was just thinking this last night. A great bifurcation in educational philosophy is coming.
As many people have said, the more AI degrades college instruction, the more you'll see elite institutions respond to the demand for artisanal, bespoke old-school teaching as the rest of the world has to suffer with the chatbots
Back in the 90s and 90s scholars in the social sciences and humanities developed analytical frameworks that helped explain how seemingly race neutral policies like drug laws or urban renewal were still systematically racist. I appreciate how the White House has obviated the need for such theories.
In REJECTING the Trump DOJ's request to sideline 20,000 California ballots, Judge David O. Carter calls it out as part of "a broad, ongoing pattern of attempted election interference by federal officials." Doc buff.ly/hSDF7SA
In that case, the pigeons on my roof have become more powerful than I could possibly imagine.
Trump on solar panels: "They kill all the animals. The animals jump on them and they fry."
22. More broadly, we cannot hope for our republic to survive if elites like Trump, who act with impunity for the law and morality, are allowed to carry on without fear of accountability.
There are 11 Arab Nobel laureates! The most recent was last year!
RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."
I don't know that there is a definitive line to cross that makes you say, "I live in a police state now" but when masked gunmen can routinely brutalize the public, citizen or immigrant alike, with impunity, you have reached that point.
Kavanaugh stops in action: ICE tackled a non-verbal kid near his school, left him with injuries requiring surgery, and then left the scene when they realized he wasn't the person they were looking for www.independent.com/2026/10/23/i...
And so trying to separate the Affordability Agenda from the Accountability Agenda is dumb. Our economy is being wrecked by the Unitary Executive.
Me: "It cannot be stated often enough or vociferously enough: the Trump Administration is helping Russia to conquer Ukraine. The United States of America has taken the side of an aggressor against its innocent victim. We are helping our actual enemies" www.aei.org/foreign-and-...

Ukraine’s children are not “conscripted to die”. Kids aren’t in the army. Even young adults aren’t. Putin is killing them from hundreds of miles with drones and missiles. This is all complete nonsense unless words lack all meaning.
Hey everyone, gather around! Elon Musk, the trillionaire defense contractor currently spending >$400m on political campaigns to prop up the party of a deeply unpopular president who launched the Iran War has some thoughts about Ukraine, elites, and money in politics.
My review of Nicholas Norman-Krause, *Political Theology and the Conflicts of Democracy*, is out. I share this to encourage those interested in questions of pluralism, conflict, and theology to read this book, an important contribution to the conversation between theology and radical-democracy.

The fact that the president's doctors are giving him the dementia test over and over again -- tracking his decline, most likely -- and that the president keeps bragging about having to take that test should be a five-alarm fire.
Trump: "You know, the first question -- they have a lion, a snake, a giraffe, and a bear. And they say 'which is the snake?' ... by the time you get to number five a lot of people are left out on the road ... I get no credit for it."
