More and more countries are rethinking their data, tech, and digital sovereignty in their relationship to their reliance on US tech companies. New relationships, agreements, laws, and innovation are emerging as a result of these petty exec orders from the US.
ANALYSIS: 'Lake America' makes one thing clear: we can’t trust U.S. tech companies | TVO Today

When Gloria Steinem co-founded Ms. Magazine in 1972, the honorific “Ms.” was virtually unheard of. Unmarried women were referred to as “Miss [father’s last name]” and married women as “Mrs. [husband’s last name].” “Ms.” was an assertion of individual identity. Women who used it were widely mocked.
No matter what they claim, the REAL “war” that’s been going on in our cities has been a WAR ON WALKING. And it’s been going on for a century. #UrbanTruth

it's not an exaggeration to say that jk rowling is the world's most powerful and prominent transphobe outside of elon musk it's easy to not buy a tesla and it's easy to not watch the harry potter tv show
As a new Harry Potter trailer makes the rounds, it bears repeating that there’s no way to watch this show without supporting J.K. Rowling’s bigotry and the structural violence she’s inflicting on the trans community.

Every country needs to do this. The U.S. won't, because we're a fascist-run shithole
it was so crucial for the web that people could look at and learn the html and eventually css behind the sites they visited, and so crucial that all you needed was notepad. losing that while also losing the basic knowledge of how computers and filesystems work has been a total disaster for all of it
In the late 90's people started using WYSIWYG editors like Dreamweaver to make websites, instead of by hand, and the html produced was famously complete dogshit. There were weird <br> tags everywhere, it'd look normal but be a huge pain in the ass to modify or figure out what fucked up, etc
There was an indie game dev talking about how a character he was working on had no name revealed. The only place it was ever written was in his personal Google doc account. And a fan jokingly asked Google AI what the name was...and it told him the correct one. Because it scans your private docs
If you have a Gmail account, you need to read this. Google's AI now scans your emails and attachments, bank statements, tax files, medical letters, all of it. It turned on by default, and there's a class-action lawsuit over how. Here are 5 moves to shut it off, the switch is hidden in two places:
The richest man owns X. The second and fourth richest men control Google. The third richest man owns The Washington Post. The sixth richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. And now the seventh richest could soon take over both Paramount and Warner Bros. See the problem here?

Tech oligarchs could really set the example for the common folk by simply building their mansions right next to their data centers and then live in them with their families.
SHOUT-OUT to Political Cartoonist extraordinaire & Member of the Order of Canada Michael de Adder, who routinely does a far better job of holding this administration accountable than the corporate media. Thank you for your attention to his brilliant satirical wit! 🙏 (also: 🤣)
Boycott Google, as it shamelessly panders to that idiotic vulgar slob.
Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields concert raising $20m for abortion care nonprofits (among others) while putting on an absolute banger of a show should be getting more play than it is in the millennial retirement home that is Bluesky
Ron and Cassie DeSantis: These two crooks stole $10 million from a settlement with a charity, wired it to Cassie’s fake “charity,” laundered it through two puppet organizations, and then used it for political ads in an election year. They should be in jail.

Sound gig last night to conclude a week long kids music camp on Denman Island called Wild Haven. Amazing performances by them plus an appearance by The National’s Matt Berninger, who was a mentor at the camp. Pretty exciting for this kid.
“Dutch people cycle an average of 2.6km each per day. If this pattern was replicated worldwide, annual carbon emissions would drop by 686 million tonnes. This mammoth figure exceeds the entire carbon footprint of most countries, including the UK, Canada, Saudi Arabia and Australia.” @euronews.com
Cycling like the Dutch would slash the world’s carbon footprint
If everybody cycled like the Dutch, we could offset the UK or Australia’s entire carbon footprint.
