[Scotsman in Cheshire] May all your transitions be joyful

Perhaps we ought to take a moment to reflect on how many white male cishet privately educated non disabled men have been given jobs and promoted without question based on fabricated CVs, unfounded self-confidence and an embellished life story & whether we’ve even heard of them.

I think it’s just worth remembering that as the media handwring to justify publicly humiliating and hounding a man to death, just two weeks ago they gave glowing eulogies to another man with a history of domestic violence and brushed off his own statements about having pedophillic impulses

A great example of what always happens when the lads are asked to consider their own deep, immediately obvious guilt: like the Iraq War or austerity or Brexit, it turns out it was everybody’s fault. And if it’s everybody’s fault, nobody is really to blame www.thetimes.com/article/aadd...

Jason Arday was failed by the system — and by me

The academic my sister knew was ‘kind, wise, warm and fun’, if also deeply flawed. The system that overpromoted him should have been the target, not him

If you ever find yourself wondering how things like the Epstein story happened, consider the mid-level newspaper editor who admitted in a public judicial inquiry that he destroyed a woman’s life and drove her to suicide to try and impress Piers Morgan.

Charles Moore, Tim Shipman, Kathleen Stock, Stephen Daisley, Sonia Sodha, Toby Young...there are just so many people with very limited intellectual range who are forced to have opinions weekly and nothing is more soothing to them than a topic their friends have already written about.

On July 31, Simon Baron-Cohen urged people to tone down the rhetoric on twitter re Jason Arday, and pointed to his own research on autism and suicide. Alexander Kustov responded with "Shame" Elon Musk with "Evil," and a wide variety of people came out jeering. The kind of cruelty on display here.

If an academic is in such a condition that public scrutiny of his (equally public) work may cause suicidal urges, then as a matter of urgency he should take leave and receive care. Using this threat to try and silence critics is about as low as it gets.

In 2014 we published the first large-scale study of suicidality in autism, subsequently widely replicated, revealing that 1 in 4 autistic people have planned or attempted suicide. That’s why I’m very concerned about the impact of the media coverage on Professor Jason Arday who is

This is amazing. You can't call out plagiarism because SUICIDE.

This is the cheapest argument imaginable. It's what the trans movement did to shut down debate.

I've lost respect for Simon Baron-Cohen. He should be henceforth considered an absurd figure.

I care deeply about people's mental health.

However, this is not a satisfactory defense for at least two reasons.

First, what about the mental health of the people who's work Arday stole?

What about Paula Zwozdiak-Myers? Women face an elevated risk for certain mental health

Cunts, the lot of them. It's been utterly relentless and clearly wouldn't have ended because he'd resigned. Like me, I'm sure you've encountered plenty of people on nationals doing sport, features, columns etc, who would distance themselves from the front pages. No sorry, you're just as culpable.

They talk about the threats to MPs but they never talk about the threats to the public from the press. They are so out of control it should be a national crisis.

it's genuinely bewildering to have spent a decade yelling about what a bad dude Elon Musk was, only for him to end up doubling the Holocaust's death count like, he just went out and made his earlier crimes look like nothing, and he's still walking free

Every time I see a clip from these guys I think, THESE opinions, THESE ones are what you needed to free yourself from the yoke of BBC impartiality to share?

The idea that we are simply going to vote our way out of deep-seated institutional failures designed over 2 & ½ centuries to constantly reproduce outcomes contrary to our best interests according to who has the most money is just not based in reality

US political coverage can best be described as a largely imaginary Democratic Party significantly more radical than it actually is vying against a largely imaginary Republican Party significantly more moderate and measured than it actually is.

I probably shouldn't, but I am getting a kick out of centrists crying the PM has said nothing about three nights of riots in England when they've said nothing about the same thing in Northern Ireland for years.
