Climate scientist on paleoclimate modeling At NSF National Center for Atmospheric Research

It's a rare pleasure if your bachelor students produce a dataset of publication quality AND also take the lead in writing the manuscript. Makes me a proud supervisor! Please read how our snail growth experiment shows that food matters for shell isotopes! 🐌🥬 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1...

Food availability impacts oxygen isotope composition in freshwater snail shells

Freshwater mollusk shells serve as valuable archives for the reconstruction of past environmental conditions as they record water temperatures in their stable isotopic compositions during biominerali...

A huge thank you to everyone who attended last week's CESM Tutorial! It was great to connect with new and familiar faces. Through lectures, hands-on CESM training, discussions with scientists, and networking, participants built a strong foundation in Earth system modeling. 🌎

I'm excited to share that I'll be joining the @csuatmossci.bsky.social as an Assistant Professor in Jan. 2027. Interested in research on the physics and dynamics of Earth's climate? Please reach out! If you don't know Fort Collins, here's The Diamond on Longs Peak at sunrise, as seen from the city.

paleoCAMP 2026 comes to a close, our 5th year of this 2 week intensive summer school for graduate students in paleoclimatology. A wonderful group of creative and energetic students, a beautiful early summer in the varied landscapes of the eastern Sierra, and a compassionate group of instructors.

That's a wrap! - 50 hours of science + calling Congress - 300 letters given to Congress after a 250-mile walk We provided the templates and our viewers and supporters injected their voices. And like last year, we feel so uplifted by our community. Thank you for spending your time with us

The @wclivestream.bsky.social is on hour 49 of livestreaming 100+ talks on climate and weather science! Tune in for the last hour to hear from @kimcobb.bsky.social and the group of scientists who walked from NYC to DC to hand off letters from around the country to Congresspeople!

NSF NCAR CGD scientists joined a Texas A&M workshop on high & ultra-high resolution Earth system modeling. As models sharpen from ~100 km to ~3 km, they can better capture regional detail & extremes but bring big scientific and computational challenges. Proud of our CGD scientists!

Most of my career has been in area of climate science called "the pattern effect". Work over the last decade (including my own) has led to a simple paradigm for the mechanisms of the pattern effect. In this new preprint, we argue this paradigm is woefully insufficient arxiv.org/abs/2603.24488 1/

The forgotten role of wave dynamics in modulating the low cloud response to warm pool warming

The Pattern Effect describes the dependence of top-of-atmosphere radiation anomalies on changes in the pattern of sea surface temperatures. The emerging consensus in the field explains the impact of P...
