The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
violet allen@blipstress.bsky.social · 9mo agoBookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.
We need to dream of a future. Not just passively believe in it, we need to actively shame people for formulating the position There Is No Alternative. It needs to become socially disadvantageous to promote that kind of thinking. Build models of the world you want to live in every day.

THE USPS SHOULD NOT BE REQUIRED TO ZERO OUT ITS BALANCE SHEET IT IS NOT A BUSINESS IT DOES NOT HAVE SHAREHOLDERS. IF THE USPS IS OUTSPENDING ITS BUDGET IT SHOULD BE ALLOCATED MORE BUDGET.
i feel you. these times are a mess. but if you're still alive that means you can hopefully still go outside, and hopefully find some trees or grass, see birds or bugs or maybe even some other animals. it's what we're supposed to be doing. love each other.

had a death in the family and was almost completely off the internet for a few days & my observation is that there is too much happening too fast such that basic facts abt the world are difficult to ascertain unless you are mainlining info all the time & doing that seems to drive people insane
Times like these I’m so glad Merrick Garland stuck to “norms” & refused to prosecute Trump for his many crimes. Because yes—while we are facing the very real threat of global nuclear war—at least we don’t have the shame of a former president sitting in prison. Boy would that’ve been embarrassing.

As someone who probably shares more of the qualities below than I'd love to admit, I think this puts it well: the process of friction in the classroom dynamic - responding, thinking through what students have to say on your feet, developing your own thinking about a topic in the process - is key...
