It's notable that when Belarus/Russia did this to Poland, other EU countries didn't respond by blaming Poland. They blamed Belarus/Russia. No mystery why Europe's governing conservatives are blaming the EU's only leftist prime minister.

Politico this morning: "What can Brussels do? The EU executive doesn’t have many powers in this area - firefighting remains a national responsibility." Babes, try not rolling back climate policy. Do literally anything to mitigate climate change.

Ugh. Peer-pressuring the collapse of civilization? Anti-democratic attitudes are highly contagious, new psychology study finds www.psypost.org/anti-democra... From study: "...many individuals adjusted their privately reported support for authoritarian rule to align more closely with their peers."

Anti-democratic attitudes are highly contagious, new psychology study finds

The rise of anti-democratic sentiments might be driven by social contagion. Researchers have discovered that citizens often adapt their personal support for authoritarian rule to align with the politi...

also, "it's only fascism if it satisfies this extremely specific and historically contingent set of conditions" is the kind of frankly stupid wordcel game that you adopt when you aren't trying to describe the world but you are trying to hit back at people on twitter you don't like

I work at Google DeepMind. This won't make me popular. But it's all public reporting: 2014: DeepMind reportedly sold to Google on conditions: no military use, independent oversight 2026: a Pentagon contract for "any lawful government purpose" Not one safeguard survived intact

Collage titled "Trust is not Governance — an essay from inside Google DeepMind, written in personal capacity."

A 2014 memorandum, "Conditions of the Acquisition," lists: military applications of DeepMind technology banned; deployment decisions before an independent ethics board (as reported in Mallaby's The Infinity Machine).

Red threads lead to a 2026 U.S. Department of Defense agreement for classified networks reading "any lawful government purpose," with safety settings and filters adjusted at the government's request and no contractor veto (reported terms, The Information, Apr. 2026).

Below: a 2018 AI Principles strip ("no weapons, no surveillance") stamped DROPPED 2025, and a Project Mario 2016–2021 tag stamped ABANDONED.

“Culture of impunity” is right. The demand is to never hold public figures accountable for wrongdoing, not even verbally when they’re already beyond the reach of human accountability and won’t hear the criticisms and jokes. The legacy must be sanitized, or current elites might feel less impunity.

Mainstream Respectable opinion is that people joking about a bad person's death represents a culture of cruelty, but really it represents a culture of impunity. It's a coping mechanism for watching someone do evil their whole life and never seeing consequences

In which Steve Bannon says "they're trying to stop" Bill Pulte at DNI and John Solomon's "task force" because they will otherwise create a national security predicate for a "national emergency" order on elections. They're really going for it. www.mediamatters.org/voter-fraud-...

Discussing a potential national emergency executive order on elections, Steve Bannon suggests that national security would be the predicate, and John Solomon's "task force" would be involved

A brief 🧵 for all outside the #atproto bubble on why, from a digital industrial policy perspective, this step is deeply bewildering. There's @eurosky.social – open source, non-profit, fully aligned with the EU's open source strategy. It provides all that W has, & more. And yet, the Commission...

We have now joined W, a new European social media network. We’re present on 15+ platforms, and are especially happy to join one based in Europe and with the ambition to foster open and safer online conversations. Keep the conversation going - whether from W, Bluesky or other compatible apps.

A promotional graphic with a deep purple background, inviting viewers to "Connect with us on" a platform symbolized by a large stylized letter "W."

The "W" has a 3D effect, with the left half in white and the right half in a light mint green. Five large, yellow five-pointed stars curve along the top, right, and bottom edges, reminiscent of the European Union flag. In the bottom right corner, there is a small, white institutional logo representing the European Commission.
