I've worked in journalism for a long, long time. Trans people's skepticism about and hostility to the field is beyond merited. Honestly, I share a lot of it. I think there's a role for trans journalists when we draw upon, and learn from, the radical tradition. The example is Ida Wells, not the NYT

The "gender critical" movement are not appealing their loss in their fight to stop the puberty blocker trial. The "irreversible harm" James is talking about here is people being trans. That's it. Helen Joyce said it clearly, even if trans people say they are happy they consider them to be "harmed."

People in Austin, with heat indexes over 100 nearly daily, will accuse homeless folks they see of being high and not even consider for a second that they could just be dehydrated or suffering from a heat illness. Esp. around the library, which is a city cooling center

not just the right-wing media, half of centrist punditry was convinced that this was somehow going to be game-changing, out of a combination of affinity, idiocy, and their deep desire to surrender to perceived power.

To the right-wing media, though, the fact one of their own could get cut down like this was a genuine trauma.
