Abolish ICE (and DHS). Billionaires are untenable and America has no kings. Librarian. Educator. Cat lady. She/her.

Good-faith concern on this issue would be going, "hmm, professional sports leagues should probably have some standards in place to ensure trans competitors aren't getting an unfair advantage," googling for 5 minutes, realizing every sports league already has those standards and dropping it.

Rodger Sherman@rodger.bsky.social · 6d ago

i don't believe anyone has "good-faith" concerns about trans women in sports in 2026. there's been too much time to hear the actual evidence, the actual people affected, and the role the debate plays in attempts to purge trans people from American life. anybody picking that side has made a choice

Do you want to know how popular school vouchers are? They have never won on a ballot. Not once. In any state. Ever. The only way states are able pass a school voucher scheme is behind closed doors. Legislatively. The people would never approve their tax dollars going to private religious schools.

It’s worth noting that Taco Bell identified the source before the FDA did, and promptly pulled it from their stores. The FDA didn’t even name the source until Taylor Farms outed themselves, and hasn’t issued a recall. Basically, Taco Bell is now a more reliable authority than the FDA.

Taylor Farms, which supplies major fast food and grocery chains, was identified as the possible source of the cyclosporiasis outbreak Thursday.

Seizing people’s ill gotten gains is entirely consistent with abolition and I do think it’s a bigger deterrent than the threat of prison. It also arguably accords more with justice as the scale & breadth of corruption-for-thievery taking place is almost unfathomable.

Tressie McMillan Cottom@tressiemcphd.bsky.social · 3w ago

I’m interested in any political imagination for accountability. It has to be proactive & retroactive. It has to be spectacular. And, ideally, it would leave so many of them broke that it actually becomes a deterrent. Being poor is truly all they care about not because they don’t care about prison.

Tell a teen you love about how damaging you, personally, have found smoking. They don’t know! Young (all) folks are hungry for authentic interactions, share your smoking horror story in person (I work with teens, their job is to roll their eyes, yours is to have a thick enough skin to share anyway)

Olivia Hill@machineiv.bsky.social · 3w ago

I genuinely hate the push to make smoking a thing again. I have watched so many drawn out, ugly, painful deaths from smoking. It makes everything disgusting. It enslaves us to the worst kinds of corporations. There’s ZERO positive here.

But revenge is also objectively good in this kind of situation. The other word for "revenge" is "deterrence." We need to make sure anyone else who is tempted to try to overthrow multiracial democracy knows that they're on a clock

Micah@rincewind.run · 3w ago

this is an underrated point - rebuilding the government and Doing Things are going to be important but that is going to be a hard job that takes time and the federal budget is a shitshow the easiest and cheapest way to show voters that you are Doing Things? revenge

Mainstream Respectable opinion is that people joking about a bad person's death represents a culture of cruelty, but really it represents a culture of impunity. It's a coping mechanism for watching someone do evil their whole life and never seeing consequences

My first IUD insertion was so painful I almost passed out, and then I bled for a week while dealing with cramps so bad I couldn’t stand up for hours at a time. They told me that was normal. We expect women to carry on without debilitating symptoms all the time, but that doesn’t make it right.

19thnews@19thnews.org · 4w ago

Trials found that Carevix — a portmanteau of “care” and “cervix" — reduced pain during IUD insertion by up to 73 percent and bleeding by 78 percent, compared to the tenaculum.

I’ll share it, because I think this rampant anti-Muslim and anti-Arab bigotry is not only accepted by a dying wing of our party but being used to win primaries (see Abdul). It’s on us to see it, shun it, and protect our coalition.

What Rachel Bitecofer is doing to Georgia Rep. Ruwa Romman on X is Islamophobic, racist, and disgusting. I will not share it here to spare your day, but no serious candidate should retain her services moving forward

This is fascinating. Reconstruction II, except it’s actually just enforcing the letter of Reconstruction. But also: our predecessors *knew* the traitorous Confederates had to be strictly constrained from implementing their sick dreams of white supremacy. I’m a Bolts subscriber, they do great work!

Alex Burness@burness.bsky.social · 4w ago

Congress imposed strict limits on felony disenfranchisement when it readmitted former Confederate states post-Civil War. But the South quickly blew past those limits—and then some. Now, for the first time, one state is facing consequences for 156 years of disregard. My latest in @boltsmag.org:

Believe Women is an epistemological stance. It doesn't mean you assume that every single woman is telling the truth and women never lie. It means you understand that in the system that we exist in, there's much more risk and pain for women coming forward about abuse than there is anything to gain.

i have been trying to unpack why the i told you so’s here feel so legitimate despite the horrific seriousness of the allegations. i think bc it’s so enraging that he was allowed to make it this far. that poor woman was forced to traumatize herself in public because pundits are too fucking stupid

rax ‘levon honkers’ king@raxkingisdead.bsky.social · 4w ago

normally i find this sort of crowing to be in poor taste because of what’s at stake. but i know a lot of pundit ass pundits follow me on here and i want every one of you to know i was right and you were wrong

He's out. Everyone who continued to push Platner after the Nazi tattoo revelation should resign from Democratic politics along with him. They damaged the movement and set us back, potentially losing us the Senate in the most consequential election in U.S. history. No place for them in this party.

Apropos of holding police accountable, did you know that Celeste is suing the Irvine PD over a wrongful arrest, among other things? This is a precedent-setting case and she’s trying to stay afloat amidst the process and the fallout. Boost/help if you can?

My doctor is pretty convinced that's why I'm sick now; he thinks the thyroiditis and goiter started once I hit too many months of chronic stress. I'm trying my best to get better, and that's why I seriously appreciate the support/shares/boosts; it truly means a lot. gofund.me/7872605fc
