The Crows Say "ICE Delendum Est"

Cult leader to local corvids. Aspiring bog witch (still seeking bog).
People frequently make this claim and the evidence is comparing like a Master Electrician to a typical college grad, but you don't become a Master Electrician straight out of trade school! The path to the "good" trade jobs in many markets are often highly constrained by cronyism and nepotism
ok but its also a better financial investment right now by a HUGE margin
I don't really have an objection to the CEO saying Bluesky is open to all; it's kind of his job to do that. But as others have pointed out, the design of the site means it's harder for trolls/bots/chuds *and also* influencers/hypebeasts to get traction. The "bubble" here is actually normal humans.
Its a lib "bubble" because MAGA can't stick dick opinions in my face without a block. People like bluesky because unlike Twitter you can curate/filter out stupid bullshit. The only reason conservatives hate it is because they cant force you to pay attention to them. That better not fucking change.
Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."
Every now and then someone takes a run at me along the lines of "I don't understand why you, a scifi writer, don't appreciate 'AI'," and I'm all, motherfucker, it's *because* I'm a science fiction writer I have the positions I have, how many times do we have to fucking yell "torment nexus," my dude
the abject shallowness of our media classes never, ever fails to shock me. ‘but he was nice to me’ is something you should have grown out of by double figures
I called WNET in NY to ask them to remove this video. I told them it was damaging to kids. You can call them, too! Call 212-560-1313 and press 2 to leave a message (the phone prompt seems to indicate 1, but that message directs you to 2). ny.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/ruf...

This is everything I feel both as a library worker and an academic trying to figure out how to teach libraries to be better. It took me until late this year to realize why discussing AI feels like the moral injury I sustained trying to get people I trusted to care about COVID. They’re the same.
If useful, here's my attempt to process my feelings about how I feel sadly kinda — or rather very — sick from all this AI fascist nonsense as an academic. 😶🌫️ I'd be pleased if even one person finds something useful because there's something to be said for processing this all together, so, um, enjoy?
Lmao. The people who tell you AI is inevitable say that because THEY are using it and don't want to look like the lazy assholes they are. It's especially egregious in situations like this. Hank built up his audience without using AI at all, so why use it now?
It’s hard to undersell the importance of Hank Green in our space. Co-creator of Crash Course and SciShow, OG YouTuber, and a really good novelist to boot. Turns out he’s using AI.
Got a good job down at the Data Center. I work on the line, and it's hard work but it's honest and the wage is fair; my family and I are grateful for it. I rivet the word "absolutely" onto the little apologies that chatbots do when they misunderstand a prompt.
Hassett: "Data centers are very good for towns bc they create so many jobs & bring people in with high incomes that can buy houses & stuff like that. So if you take a sleepy town that hasn't seen much in the last 30 years & put a data center there, there are gonna be a bunch of happy residents."
In one California town, Flock misread license plates in 71% of the time. Out of a sample of 1,427 alerts that Flock sent to police in the town of Roseville, alerts that flagged vehicles as stolen or used in a felony after they passed one of the city's Flock cameras, 71% were inaccurate.

and there will be all this handwringing about "the best message" and "the best messenger" and this and that and the other thing. and the most important thing is to fucking just do shit. do all the shit. throw it against the wall. see what works. do it again. cause thats what the bad guys are doing.
In summary, it appears likely: - Ebola is at least partially airborne - this is inefficient, limited by ability to enter the lung - obvious, biologically plausible mechanisms could rapidly increase efficiency by orders of magnitude - if so, the IPC/PH response would be reactive, slow and ineffectual
The reactionary principle: inaction for public health
Commentary on the editorial by Martuzzi (see page 569) Martuzzi’s commentary on the precautionary principle is welcome and timely.1 I will make a few largely supportive comments while perhaps anticip...

I love how ever random progressive is treated like any of their stated principles is a party position and needs to be phrased and critiqued as such and any right-wing position is treated as a misunderstanding or a metaphor
TikTok has incredible moderation team. Our InfoWars video about Multiple Horse Theory — the idea that there are many horses in the world and not just one — has been fully deemed misinformation and lost the formal appeals process. Confirmed by Larry Ellison: There is only one horse on Earth.
SpaceX burns down a state park, destroys sensitive tidal habits, and murders some baby quails. Sounds about right....
SpaceX rocket that exploded shortly after takeoff destroyed land & wildlife: Concrete chunks had left craters a foot deep & were strewn across tidal flats, almost four acres of state park burned, 7 bobwhite quail eggs & a collection of blue land crabs incinerated. www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...
Honestly, once you carve the progressives out of the left and MAGA out of the right, there’s almost no difference between Republicans and Democrats. Y’all could just join up and become one party called Classical Capitalists.
the ideal academic life is being an eccentric Victorian lord. Invent a stamp licking machine at 22. Get elected to the Royal Academy for counting the beetles on your estate. Die in an arsenic explosion. The perfect life.
One trip to Safeway, having pressed the "Need Assistance?" button, I started my stopwatch, committed to the bit and got ready to Wait As Long As It Took. At ~9min mark, the employee at the balloons/florist came over to ask if I needed help. They also said "Oh, that button is broken." [1/?]
As good as many of you said. I really appreciate the unambiguous point that this primarily a racist moral panic before unpacking the nuanced second-order explanations. dannykatch.substack.com/p/we-used-to...
Horseshoe crabs should be allowed to operate any heavy machinery they can figure out how to use.
Don't assume that I don't know how to read merely because I've massively misinterpreted what you wrote. I actually understood it perfectly, I'm just also annoying
Uh, who is defying whom again? Which one works for the other?
Yes, the Problems are bad, but this is no time for radical things like Solutions
I thought this was a pretty interesting take from Codeberg's announcement of their anti-LLM policy They argue that many developers using LLMs are essentially heaven-banning themselves where they don't realize they're developing for a nonexistent community
😐 New Brunswick Conservative MLA Bill Oliver. Official Opposition Whip, reading out his objections to whatever it is Conservatives are trying to stir up a fuss about now, and accidentally reading out the comments from the LLM that came up with his thoughts for him too.

Newspaper property sections are always like "Sebastian, Pancetta and their son Eugenics moved from the city to the country to live their dream" and then there's a picture of them outside their new mansion with their new cow and you can tell the cow is going "I fucking hate my life."
We’re at the hospital because our son has an enlarged heart and turns out to have better oxygen saturation on one side than the other So if $50,000 is meaningless to @whstancil.bsky.social I’m happy to give him our Venmo. I’ll even buy him a lottery ticket to mitigate the decrease in expected value
Mitch McConnell should not be trending on blue sky until he is OFFICIALLY dead. Anything else is just getting my blood pressure up.
