Also, if you are a cis person and you actually think this is about trans people, I'd be happy to inform you that it's not. Conservatives want to police gender for everyone. It's the skeleton key to their entire political project. It won't just affect trans people. It'll affect you, too.

If you're a cis person insisting that the prospect of trans children playing youth sports is not only "a problem" but in fact one of the biggest problems we currently face as a nation, I'd be happy to introduce you to literally a million other things that should be worrying you more.

In light of the “good faith questions” discourse I just wanted to re-up @reveleth.com’s fascinating podcast about the complex (and frequently appalling) history and present of policing sexual biology in women’s sports.

Hello new people! My latest project was a 10+ year labor of love and it would mean the world to me if you checked it out. www.tested-podcast.com It’s a narrative, deep, complex and suspenseful story of gender, sports, science, and “fairness.”

It’s often necessary and energizing to mobilize through shared opposition. But this form of solidarity will always stagnate if we can’t also recognize what we love in common and imagine what we hope to build together. As usual, I think the preschool classroom offers some wisdom in finding balance.

What kids have to teach us about insisting on “no” and striving for “yes”

Today marks the beginning of rent making week. I have to sell 13 framed pieces just to have rent (I badly need car parts, groceries & pet food, but keeping the roof over our heads comes first). This year has been hard but this month has been the worst. Special gift packages going w/ all orders!

@josie.zone In other news, I finished reading your dad’s book, and it taught me so much. I could go on at length, but the essence is that he gave Bill Broonzy his due, for sure, which on a first-order level is high praise (at least in my reckoning). I did promise you that I would report back

Something that the white nationalists and supremacists don’t want us to believe— everyone, especially the most vulnerable, deserves to a have a future. And they want us to happily give up having a say. And if not, they’ll violently take that right from us. But, everyone deserves a future

We can make a society that exists for the care and thriving and enjoyment of the actual people rather than for the enrichment of parasitical greed freaks and the comfort of creepy-minded religious bigots. All that's needed is for more people to stop fearing good things and start fighting for them.

Another angel just got their wings. “The first is that healthcare I spent years fighting to get becomes a punchline. The second is that a political movement with a perfectly coherent plan for people like me gets talked about as if it simply made a logic error. Both are bad.” Please read this.

Every time someone calls Hegseth's testosterone program or Elon's hair plugs "gender affirming care," I wince. Speaking only for myself, and I know the jokes are well-intentioned: I wish we'd retire this one. New from me on why. www.readtpa.com/p/theres-no-...

honestly if you have a teenager in your life and you're tempted to make jokes about how they're a teenager, maybe instead tell them they're doin okay and you love them and you wanna see whatever thing they're working on. stop making fun. they're near universally not at a place where it feels funny

Hey, I know that author! My first published bit of true freelance NWSL coverage: fresh reporting from North Carolina on the Courage's efforts to score lots of goals (and a bit on how that proved difficult against the Spirit on Saturday.) Read it and make sure to follow their great coverage!

The North Carolina courage were blanked 2-0 by the Washington Spirit over the weekend. @roey.bsky.social explores how the team is adjusting to life without Manaka Matsukubo: www.theixsports.com/the-ix-socce...

when you tell us that the people who murdered comity and civility—who are trying to kill and rob and enslave us—are actually your dear friends, you don’t create civility, but despair; we see you don’t actually believe the danger is real, can’t be trusted to fight the battle that needs to be fought.

Timeline cleanse: You're watching Mei & Kira, two sea otters (Enhydra lutris) at the Toba Aquarium in Japan, help clean the pool area after playtime. The reward is an ice treat. Enrichment activities like this promote mental wellness. Let's talk about the SUCCESS of sea otter conservation.

Something that I appreciate about being a marginalized person in this country is that it makes me unsentimental about it. This means that there's always an opportunity to redo things. This day sucked, well there's tomorrow or next month or next year to do something else. Things should change.

It's all "ooooh we need a meritocracy" until the wrong people have merit and then it's like "oooh we need to protect us." Trans kids deserve a chance play in sports because EVERYONE deserves a chance to play in sports and nobody should lose that chance because they're disfavored by bigots.

Got frustrated striking out at pitching opeds to media orgs and couldn't have done this piece within their word count constraints anyway. So now you Blueskis get to read it. Friend told me my superpower is explaining complex and dry law and legal history clearly. I try. You can be the judge. Thx.

This is my lane. I went through the 194 Trump v Barbara opinion from yesterday section by section, noting what they got right about US migration and citizenship history, and what the dissents get wrong. Please share if you think it is helpful to others.
