Retired principal engineer. Who is quite willing to bore you with how communication systems work. And old computer history, at least the parts I was involved in. Here to read what some of my favorite authors write.

If you're wondering why Flock leaves cameras up after a contract end, part of their business model and marketing strategy is being able to advertise that their customers can access data from cameras all over the country. You may have canceled your contract, but the cameras still fuel the system.

“A college in Illinois tried to cancel its Flock contract—Flock refused to take its cameras down so Elgin Community College covered them. The company snuck back to uncover them” www.theverge.com/tech/1009411...

Lastest reminder that republicans' sticking fingers in their ears and squeezing shut of eyes and going "LA LA LA THAT'S NOT HAPPENING" to the clear moral repugnance of their candidates is a loyalty oath, making it clear that they stand for nothing but their party and the reflected power therefrom.

More damaging revelations about Ken Paxton: A previously unreported New Year’s Eve 2024 celebration where Paxton partied in Dubai with two fugitives from U.S. justice and a woman who wasn’t his wife on.wsj.com/4yKLe4d

Timeline cleanse: American pikas calling to each other in the Canadian Rockies. Sound on to hear the loud “MEEP!” made by these potato sized alpine mammals. They’re way off under those cliffs but the calls travel. *this is likely a niche post, but it’s one of my favorite sounds in the world.

What I like about Bluesky is that Ukraine's bombing of the Russian Bots has no effect on traffic here, we all blocked those bots long ago

School boards are way under the radar in a big year like this, but the same battles you've heard about (book bans, Moms for Liberty, trans kids) are happening this year too. I identified 19 school boards where there battles like this — and what's up: boltsmag.org/whats-on-the...

We are becoming more like our ally Russia every day under the Trump Regime. Vote his Republican enablers and supporters out of office next month. Our Republic is being shredded and our credibility all over the world is completely gone.

Wow — listen to these new comments from Trump. Thanking Putin, trashing Zelenskyy, characterizing Russia as eager for peace and Ukraine as intransigent. The mask is totally off.

I was once told by a cop, at a training triggered by a sharp increase in drugging and SA at large events in the 2010s, that their job was to disprove allegations, that 99% of victims were liars, and they were there to lock up people who made false allegations. Which was basically everyone.

You’re sexually assaulted. You report. And the police make you the suspect. Police unleash a slew of interrogation techniques meant for criminal suspects on vulnerable people.

Adding to this: it’s not just that the Constitution allows for impeachment; it COMMANDS it upon the commission of treason, bribery, and other high crimes and misdemeanors by federal office holders. The word “shall” is a command, not a plea.

If Donald Trump, with his record of corruption and law-breaking, is not impeached, we might as well strike impeachment provisions from the Constitution. He is the reason they exist and must be implemented.
