I think about all the lakes and rivers and waterways in cities that used to be running jokes about toxic sludge and now are swimmable. Also we did kind of fix the whole ozone layer situation. Plus way fewer people smoke cigarettes!

there's an upcoming inflection to "worldwide, zero-margin, clean power" coming up and I don't know if we have any idea what's on the other side. Sure, transmission cost isn't zero, but it gets close when microsolar on-site is an option (Pakistan). And capital costs continue to drop!

Don't look now, but the world has now installed 3TW of solar. Took 10 years to get from 100GW to 1TW. Less than 3 years to get to 2TW. Less than 2 years to get to 3TW. Analysts expect *9TW* by 2036.

*Everywhere* used to smell of cigarette smoke. Restaurants are the obvious example that everyone thinks of, but people used to smoke in banks, on buses, airplanes, post offices, movie theaters, and even public schools. Also, it used to be considered normal to drive home completely-ass drunk.

There was a brief, like six-month period at the end of Dan Slott's run in 2018 when Robbie Robertson hired Peter to be the Bugle's science editor. It felt like a perfect joining of the two parts of his life. Then the next writer immediately had him fired.

because the problem isn't actually a story problem, the problem is a generation of comics writers who want Peter to have a Proper Grown-Up Job and equate financial success with that. but Peter Parker is and will always be financially precarious, because he is the superhero for the little guy.

The fix here has always been easy as hell: put Peter in Midtown High, fill out the staff with people from his life who are in on the secret, and will cover for him, and oh look the problem is SOLVED. (Peter David was actually progressing towards this in his Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man run.)

I didn’t mind the ‘Peter as teacher’ idea that JMS had, although it was more difficult to justify his constant absences from his job.

The best use of Peter in a civilian context in his entire life post-being-a-photojournalist is high school teacher. The second best is helping Aunt May with her community activism (and yes both Parkers were 100% community activists, where do you think Peter gets it from). THESE ARE NOT ACCIDENTS!
