This is a big deal. DC fed judge says that DOJ's pursuit (and use) of the state voter files is unlawful, on a bunch of different grounds. And effectively confirms that for the 18 states that submitted files willingly, whoever collected the files at DOJ Civil Rights committed federal crimes.

hollywood releasing a bunch of movies about how an insane, radicalized cabal of billionaires are trying to gobble up the world economy approximately 3 weeks after said insane cabal gobbles up the entertainment industry is what historians call a "whoopsy doodle" moment

Repeating my sotto voce refrain that I think we are very soon going to have to deal with the plain (but seldom spoken) fact that police are simply not under the control of the political leadership who command them on paper.

I hope Mamdani clarifies whether NYPD support for this action was at his direction or if the NYPD acted on its own; if the latter, why do they have that latitude and what is being done to reign in a rogue agency?

“Although [Mr. Belgal] was initially hospitalized, it appears that ICE moved quickly to transfer him out of the hospital to an unknown location—raising grave concerns for his health and well-being.” from @maketheroadny.bsky.social’s habeas petition filed today

ICE shot a man in New York City; his lawyers can’t find him

The agency claims Oscar Belgal "weaponized his vehicle” against agents in the Bronx, prompting them to fire seven shots at his car.

As tiresome as it is to hear Andy Burnham saying "innovation nation" over and over, it's arguably even worse to hear this talk of industrialisation. We have great, valuable export industries in the arts, TV, the BBC and higher education. All are being filleted; thousands out of work, and what for?
