Please, explain something to me. I drive there almost every day and I honestly don't understand how widening it would help traffic flow better. Outside of peak hours where one might wait a few moments in the morning, it is even less busy than what Mark is "showing".

This picture is misleading, here. This is a better indicator of the opposition to Alto. And of course, there are polling numbers that show how many people actually support this.

Note that the reason this got passed is because it doesn't explicitly say it reduces the bus lanes from 3 to 2 hours. Clause 3 includes the word "existing", which modifies the staff recommendation. This moved fast because @shawnmenard.bsky.social hid the modifier in unclear language.

Disappointment at council today. Council just passed a motion from Councillor Menard for the Bank Street bus lane study which will restrict bus lanes even further from staff's proposed 3 hours to 2 hours. This means we will get no data about how parking affects bus flow in the area.

The same drivers: "I couldnt see you!" We need some very strict rules about what is an "acceptable" (very generous choice of word) way to mount a phone on a "hands-free" holder. The number of times I see drivers that have most of the FOV filled with the phones, but hey, they aren't touching it!

Many Ottawa residents are struggling to make ends meet. In the face of rising costs for food and housing, we can't add to the financial burden of residents with big increases in taxes and fees. Other Canadian cities have seen property tax increases of 22% to 27% over the past four years.

Suggestion for @glengower.ca: saying it's been "a long day" doesn't make things better for the people that took time out of their day to come speak to you and the rest of the members of the Transit Committee. This is the first change they got in over 5 months.

Hi Glen, The Feb 12 meeting is gonna be quite the long one! I think we should probably move back to more frequent transit committee meetings to avoid every one of them being 12+ hours and allowing for more frequent updates on the status of our system.

We talk a lot about “value engineering” as responsible cost control. Too often, it’s really a way to defer decisions and push costs, complexity, and risk into the future. I wrote about why waiting is rarely neutral in infrastructure, and what it really costs us. open.substack.com/pub/dbelleri...
