There's nothing a certain kind of Democrat loves more than debating which segment of the coalition we should throw under the bus in exchange for a deal no one is offering.

There’s such an easy answer to this “gotcha” question and it’s “Sports are inherently unsafe and unfair and it’s ridiculous to single out trans athletes when we allow 150 pound linebackers to go up against 260 pound linemen in freshman football on a daily basis. Let kids play with their friends.”

Trump has never offered much in the way of material goods or transfers to his voters. He engages in displays of dominance, they derive a sense of status and prestige from those displays. It's a symbolic economy that rests on a cult of personality, in which his diehard fans are eternal marks.

I live for the ferocity of human connection, not content for the content god. You should try it sometime.
Consider how RFK has seamlessly moved from a vaguely left-coded figure to a far-right figure without changing a thing about his anti-germ theory, antivax, anti-regulation beliefs. He's just changed how much he emphasizes his eugenicist ideas instead of railing about environmental contaminants.

These are people who are attracted to the idea that the individual is almost solely responsible for and has near complete control over his/her health, hence the hostility to public health in general, not just vaccines.
You can tell this is true because when Michelle Obama made healthy eating and exercise her issue as First Lady, this same movement failed to coalesce around her and in fact she met a ton of resistance from the same people who made RFK Jr possible

This movement is responsible for every public health crisis: climate, automobile deaths, gun violence, homelessness, poverty. Its the Don't Tell Me What To Do movement. They are few but they're mobilized for war.
