The real legacy of 9/11 is what we see happening in the US right now. Organizations purportedly formed to combat terrorism are being used by a demented sociopathic president to terrorize the citizens of the US, and turn the nation into a white supremacist dictatorship.

“The country’s response to the worst terror attack in our history was to launch a global war of hysteria that consisted of rage-bombing two countries, destabilizing an entire region, and seeding a police state that has now been fully weaponized by an authoritarian regime against its own citizens.”

Newsletter is up. I hate this day. For its sadness. And for the horrible decisions we made afterwards www.thenation.com/article/poli...

“are you saying you want to check high schoolers genitals if they want to play sports you goddam freak?” is a free one you can use whenever, i wont accuse you of plagiarism or anything

I don't understand why more people don't connect Trump calling Somalis "garbage" with the Hutus calling the Tutsis "cockroaches" and the Nazis calling the Jews "vermin." We know where it starts, and we know where it ends.

Michael Phelps being genetically built like someone developed him in a lab specifically for swimmers: celebrated Olympic hero A girl whose only “crime” is being born with the incorrect parts is the second best player on her volleyball team: HELLO, HUMAN RESOURCES?!

One thing I am learning from this whole stupid slow-rolling debacle is that not enough people have seen Derrick Henry’s high school tape

Trump has never offered much in the way of material goods or transfers to his voters. He engages in displays of dominance, they derive a sense of status and prestige from those displays. It's a symbolic economy that rests on a cult of personality, in which his diehard fans are eternal marks.

Trump's contempt for his voters is boundless. He's losing/failing on every front while feeding them "Lake America" idiocy, maps depicting North America as USA, and a fake convention starring himself. On pod, @amandamarcotte.bsky.social is good on MAGA and unreality: newrepublic.com/article/2151...

I do not believe that these guys are about to summon a world-ending superconsciousness from Nvidia graphics cards. But they either believe they can or want me to believe they believe they can. So I think "fuck them" is the only rational response

PEOPLE WITH LIBERAL ARTS DEGREES: so while i see there is utility to the system, i’m more or less morally opposed to their current constructs and have big concerns over the business structure and environmental impact WEB CODER: so i met God today,

Also, as a Jewish person, I’m quite frankly burnt out by the Israeli govt’s shameless and relentless conflation of Jews and Israel Yes, there are legions of antisemites who will always try and disguise their antisemitism as criticism of Israel - they are awful What’s also true, is the…

Even if the principle of human rights is not enough to convince you that Israel’s human rights abuses of Palestinians is reprehensible and illegal, I do not understand why anyone who wants Israel to succeed would think its govt’s rapid, unchecked descent into extremism is good for it as a state

the whole Republican argument for years has been “elect us because government is terrible and corrupt and if you put us in charge we will prove it to you by being terrible and corrupt” and Trump has injected the whole thing with steroids and I really think we should try a different option

Consider how RFK has seamlessly moved from a vaguely left-coded figure to a far-right figure without changing a thing about his anti-germ theory, antivax, anti-regulation beliefs. He's just changed how much he emphasizes his eugenicist ideas instead of railing about environmental contaminants.

This! MAHA is a movement largely made up of the affluent and privileged. These are people who are attracted to the idea that the individual is almost solely responsible for and has near complete control over his/her health, hence the hostility to public health in general, not just vaccines.

A good hint on how broken American politics is is that Mamdani making government responsive to the people's needs is seen as radical to Republicans, and transformative by Democrats
