21/ For the West, the useful question isn't blanket decoupling, it's sequencing — we can't reduce dependence on China everywhere at once. That isn't a values question, it's a capacity constraint on the policy system itself.
20/ The world is unlikely to accept Chinese dominance across every supply chain, whatever the underlying cause. That reaction is coming regardless of how precisely the overcapacity term gets defined.

years ago I saw an exhibit on pompeii and was transfixed by the funerary statues recovered from the ashes. this is not my photo, but coming face to face with these beautiful memorials made me feel like time was literally collapsing. somebody loved this person, missed them. two thousand years ago
