To the surprise of absolutely fucking no-one, the MEPs in question are: Regina Doherty, Nina Carberry, Seán Kelly (FG) Barry Andrews, Barry Cowen, Billy Kelleher (FF) Ciaran Mullooly (II) I've said it before - no need for a far-right party in Ireland, as the establishment parties are already there.

Jack Kennedy@jackkennedy.ie · 5d ago

Would like to see a journalist ask the 7 of Ireland's 14 MEPs (3 FG, 3 FF, 1 II) who just voted to: -endorse burqa bans -call "hatred of Israel" a sign of "Islamist influence" -identify European Muslim communities as potential tools of "malign foreign actors" to justify themselves

Believes that the practice of concealing the face in public spaces and premises open to the public poses an unacceptable challenge to public security, identification and effective law enforcement; supports, therefore, all national measures aimed at prohibiting full-face coverings (niqab or burqa) in public spaces and premises open to the public as a necessary step to ensure social cohesion, public safety and the protection of the rights and freedoms of others, in particular women

Over the past two weeks, I’ve been following the attempts to smear the Jane Doe in the Cornell University gang rape case and redirect blame from the seven fraternity men onto her. As usual, this campaign is built on a mountain of lies and misogyny. spitfirenews.com/p/cornell-ja...

Debunking the smear campaign against the Cornell Jane Doe

Authorities, media outlets, and pundits are lying about this woman. But only her credibility is getting judged.

I get up every morning and go to work. My wife does the same, and she works hard. We get an extra 7 euros a week from the 'giveaway' budget. Seven. Euros. Who was this budget _for_? #FuckFFG #ireland

Isn't execution by military firing squad (outside of combat operations) normally a grantt of honour? DeGaulle intervened to grant Pierre Laval & Bastien-Thiry such an end, the Soviets insisted that leading Nazis be hanged, Goebbels chose suicide over such dishonour. Seems an odd move by Kegsbreath

If Nidal Hasan is executed by firing squad, as the Pentagon spokesman says Hegseth and Trump have decided, it will be the first death sentence carried out by the U.S. military since 1961, and the first by firing squad since 1945. www.militarytimes.com/news/your-mi...

Screenshot of a tweet from @SeanParnellASW dated 5 Oct 2026, reading as follows:

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has recommended — and President Donald J. Trump has approved — death by U.S. Army firing squad for convicted terrorist Nidal Malik Hasan, the jihadist who opened fire on unarmed American soldiers at Fort Hood in 2009. He killed 13 people and wounded 32 others while shouting “Allahu Akbar” during the attack.

The Secretary of the Army will set the time and place of the execution. Judgement day for Hasan has finally come.

Jim O'Callaghan on the 5.30 news still insisting that his new scheme is working brilliantly & that a significant number of solicitors are actually in favour of it. Genuinely don't know what it'll take for him to recognise that he's not the always-correct genius he seems to think he is.

Spent the day in the Central Criminal Court. Cases not proceeding because of the withdrawal of services by solicitors - adjourned matters will get a new hearing date some time after April 2027. If this goes on much longer, we'll be looking at 2028 dates for cases ready to be heard in July 2026.

Sesame Street's "Sam the Robot" absolutely terrified me when it came on the screen. My parents recount that I would run screaming from the tv room, but all I can remember is the blank, lifeless eyes and the head without a head. youtu.be/zB1w_SN5VPw

In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?

we fucking loved it, even when there was basically nothing on it, and let me tell you something else: we loved it because of human connection, human diversity, human creativity. WE DON'T NEED A SINGLE THING ANY OF THESE COMEMIERDAS HAVE MADE AND TRIED TO SELL US IN ORDER TO HAVE A GREAT INTERNET.

i especially love all the dopes saying “when the internet first went mainstream everyone hated it too” like it happened in the pioneer days so no one can dispute it, like mf’ers we were THERE

Have been a regular for ~35 years at Lansdowne but couldn’t stomach it this evening. None of us took our season ticket seats. Would have enjoyed seeing that goal live but struggling to articulate how we feel about this team. It was good to see the protest there despite RTÉ cutting away a lot.

it has now been two months of suddenly having my reading mojo back. I have read or reread twenty-nine books. I can now share such revelations as 'it's been 13 years but Ancillary Justice is still a perfect book' and 'has anyone else heard of this Tchaikovsky chap?'

from 2014 to 2023 when I worked in education, I more or less stopped reading for pleasure. when you get a passion job, it eats your passions. it’s only this year it’s really started to come back.
