As I was saying the other day, Warsh's biggest challenge from a credibility perspective is demonstrating he's independent of Trump. The communications strategy stuff is important but secondary.

The academic turned speculator Victor Niederhoffer has died at the age of 82. He was a fascinating character. Here is a profile of him that I published in 2007. www.newyorker.com/magazine/200...

My take on Kevin Warsh's credibility problem. "Unless and until Warsh convinces people (of his independence from Trump), bond traders and commentators will react skeptically to his every comment, or refusal to comment, and who can blame them?" www.newyorker.com/news/the-fin...
The New Fed Chair Needs to Prove His Independence from Donald Trump
Kevin Warsh, the current Fed chair, has only been in office since May, but he’s already under fire.

Fraser Nelson reckons Rod Liddle was “the greatest satirist since Swift” while Michael Gove is comparing him to not just Swift but Orwell. Amazing the comparisons you can get if you’ll pump out exactly the racist opinions even they are too squeamish to commit to print.

I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.
"Burnham will now have to deal with many of the same obstacles that handicapped Starmer’s government ... : stagnant living standards; a largely hostile press; political challenges from the right and the left; a hefty budget deficit; and wary financial markets". By @johncassidysays.bsky.social
Can Andy Burnham’s Manchesterism Save the U.K.’s Center Left?
With a populist touch, and a focus on affordability and raising up left-behind communities, Britain’s new Prime Minister has drawn comparisons to Zohran Mamdani.

Enten on the 67 point swing (!!!) against Israel among Americans: "We're not just talking about the Democratic base anymore. The general electorate has turned against Israel. This is not just a left issue. It's an American issue. The trend line is unbelievable."

Can't get numb to this: The United States is stuck in a war it started, cannot end, and may further escalate to no avail, having dismantled its diplomatic apparatus, depleted its military stockpile, and destroyed its credibility. A historic strategic mistake harming millions in many different ways.
Manchesterism v Mamdani-ism "The thing that ties Mamdani and Burnham together is a focus on how you make life more affordable and dignified for households that are relentlessly squeezed,” Mathew Lawrence, director of Common Wealth, tells me. www.newyorker.com/news/the-fin...

An amazing quote from Lindsey Graham in this Atlantic story. It really captures an essential truth about politics that too few people ever really come to terms with. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
Sticking with this: "On Tuesday, the BLS will release the June CPI...This may well give Trump something to trumpet for a day or two, but it’s unlikely to change the mood of ordinary Americans, who want to see prices falling—not merely going up at a slower rate." www.newyorker.com/news/the-fin...

🚨HOLY CRAP. An ICE whistleblower just revealed a secret memo authorizing ICE officers to break into homes without a judicial warrant, which DHS's own legal training materials say is unconstitutional! ICE then hid the memo from the public, passing it along by word of mouth and private conversation.
