(Paraphrased) Please elevate the people, like the people quoted here, who are speaking up and speaking out despite risks to their own funding. It takes courage but it’s the right thing to do.

Bsky hivemind: what are we liking for Xenium cell type classifiers these days? Have tried RCTD, tangram, and label transfer. 50% of the dataset is easy to classify, but wildly different results across classifiers for the other 50%. +1 if anyone’s specifically fought with spinal cord data. Thx!

Job descriptions for 2 new postdocs positions to study the spinal cord basis of motor control (Just looking at the letterhead for the new lab location has me so excited. Krembil Brain Institute, University Health Network, U. Of Toronto 🇨🇦, here we come!) @kbi-uhn.bsky.social @uhnresearch.ca

One of my favorite rhetorical and analytical moves is joining things (showing that different, seemingly unrelated ideas are part of the same phenomenon) and taking them apart (resolving paradoxes by demonstrating that what appears like a contradictory thing is different things, lumped together). 1/

A collage made of architectural features from 'Variae Architecturae Formae' (1636), a collection of engravings. The architectural arches, buildings, fountains, etc, are layered atop each other and placed around each other to create an infinite, recombinant built environment.

Thrilled to share the latest pre-print from the lab – TLDR: we identified the (near) full ascending spinal projection neuron repertoire that gives rise to central itch/touch/pain/temperature sensation as well as sex specific neuron types in the mouse spinal cord. Thread below (1/n):

Deep Cellular and Spatial Profiling of the Mouse Spinal Cord Reveals Sex-Specific Neuron Types and the Ascending Projection Neuron Repertoire

The spinal cord gives rise to central somatosensation and orchestrates autonomic and motor control. How its cellular diversity achieves functions across sex, longitudinal axis and links the spinal cor...

🕔 This is the answer to "how do you have time" for advocacy. When I read NIH workforce data at 6 AM, I read as someone who can trace an OMB memo to the biological questions that won't get asked. The same mind that builds science can fight for it.

Unfortunately this is true, BNI is shutting down very suddenly and soon. We’re still sorting through the fallout, but many incredibly talented postdocs and technicians are taking a huge hit to their careers because of this. If you know of openings, even short term, I’d be happy to circulate them.
