I had heard they were mass scanning background actors for AI nonsense, but if it’s already gotten to the point where they’re trying to slip in AI waivers on contracts with big names like Nicolas fucking Cage we’ve got to be even louder and angrier about how much we want all AI out of our media.

Nicolas Cage says he’s “probably not” working with Amazon again after refusing to sign AI waiver for “Spider-Noir”: ‘I am not an AI-friendly actor’

This is a very messy situation to be sure, but it continues to depress the shit out of me just how many people in this industry cannot conceive of supporting an effort that does not benefit them directly, even if it helps their more vulnerable peers.

Back in May, Double Fine employees petitioned for a union. Two weeks later, that petition was withdrawn. What happened? https://kotaku.com/inside-the-failed-fight-to-unionize-one-of-gamings-most-idealized-studios-2000742755

When, not if, another writer's strike happens, or *any* other kind of creative labor action, Ellison will pack the gushing wound full of LLM's. He'll have laid off everyone who could protest it, ripped apart everything that could limit the damage, etc.

I wish people understood that TV writers: 1. *Have* actually thought more about this than even the most die hard fan. 2. Are beholden to time, money, and owner constraints that fans will never be aware of. 3. Are extremely likely to already be aware of any critiques because (see 1) but (see 2)

Hey, just so people know: it's not cool to reach out to writers who worked on something you watched to tell them things like "the next few episodes could use some refinement", or "I had a few issues with it", even if you're couching it in something positive.

This seems like exactly the AI brain. They don't want to spend time doing it, but they want to "WIN." They don't respect it but they must be insufferable to their friends who want to spend time doing it and gloat about what AI did like the result had anything to do with them.

can’t think of a better example of AI being mostly a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist also it can’t help when this is your user base
