This “core team” rhetoric is getting really weird. Games that take hundreds of people to make take hundreds of people to make. Just say it! We’re reinventing “QA is in another building and aren’t real devs” from first principles

Star Wars: Galactic Racer was made by a core team of 75 people. "What we wanted to do was keep that core small, smaller than perhaps you might have done in the past, and scale capacity and capability with what we call distributed development." https://bit.ly/4hT02qg

I really don’t think people understand what R* is like to work for. There’s no “field” it’s a black box you exist in. There’s no games industry or meeting people from it. It’s just you & the other people who work at R*. You don’t realize but they’re pitted against each other constantly.

Wow holy fuck what a shit in principle but also at least have some selfworth and ask for more than an hour of time off for betraying your entire field www.verticalslice.news/rockstar-acc...

since California ballots are now out: prop 40 is the billionaire tax, and you should vote yes to stick it to them but both props 41 and 42 are designed to retroactively cancel the billionaire tax because they’re afraid they can’t beat it at the ballot box yes on 40, no on 41 and 42

i judge for a few festivals, and i can safely say that the games that always stand out the most are ones with personal creative care taken in every aspect of the game. people say AI should replace this but you can’t automate intentionality or love. if you bank on that then you don’t understand art.

And these ai guys don't understand how much of the creative process is like that. How important it is to discover new possibilities along the way. Use ai to skip that process, you skip the possibility for discovery, and you don't get Biddy Blas. You get the boring original Rager idea.

But along the way, others were like, what if he's a funny little guy with a Napoleon complex? What if he actually has a silly high pitched voice? What if he loves his mom and is racing to get his face on a cereal box to make her proud? And we got the internet's favorite new Glup Shitto.

I read an article about how Biddy Blas was created, and my big takeaway was how much that character was discovered through collaboration, a bunch of creative people "yes, and"-ing each other. The original idea was just a big angry guy with a deep voice named Rager. Boring. Generic. Forgettable.

Baku and Yuna hit the pumpkin jackpot! 🎃 Our tapirs received a MASSIVE pumpkin today for some Zoo Boo fall fun! And they won’t be the only ones getting in on the action; animals throughout the zoo and aquariums will enjoy their own slice of pumpkin season during Zoo Boo this weekend. 📹 curator Erin

The question "Is this condition overdiagnosed" is actually asking "Have we found an exceptional case of a medical issue where healthcare is too easy to get?" and the answer to that is always no. There has never, at any point, been a situation where it was too easy to get healthcare.
