there is no such thing as "age verification." All "age verification" is actually "identity verification." You can coat it in glitter and "privacy-preserving" wrapping paper. But in the end, mandating age verification means mandating surveillance be built into software and hardware. Period.

An interesting discovery I've found exploring Japanese DVD and Blu-rays : They love hour-long fly on the wall documentaries. Almost all the "Collector's Editions" of Kamen Rider and Super Sentai films feature one. It's an underrated form of special feature that I wish new films would bring back.

I don't think people realize how much of this stuff is straight up people deliberately targeting vulnerable young men in an attempt to make them miserable and desperate to spend money on it in something far more toxic and monstrous than the beauty industry's thing.
