If it's sometimes hard to tell the difference between fossil-fuel lobbyists and the billionaire press, that's because there isn’t one. My column on the politicians, journalists and junktanks using the Iran crisis as an excuse to extract our remaining gas and oil. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

UK energy prices are soaring – and propagandists want to sell you a false reason why | George Monbiot

The war on Iran has put fossil-fuel prices centre stage, but don’t believe those who tout ‘maximising the North Sea’ as our salvation, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

“Why do you want to shit on entire swathes of human endeavor and wreck the planet while you’re doing it? Why are you so determined to be awful and amoral? Everything about your priorities is messed up, and you should all be heartily ashamed, abashed and embarrassed.”

I finally lost my shit about so-called AIs, LLMs, enshittification & everything fucking evil that @officialgrammarly.bsky.social is doing. I'm fucking furious, and not just about what 1 company has done. An open letter to Grammarly & the rest of the LLM hype machine www.moryan.com/an-open-lett...

There are pieces of writing that stand on their own without any external information, but there's a reason when we read poetry, for example, we want to know when it was written and by whom? Where was it written? What were the circumstances of their life at time? And their country or city?

Luke O'Neil@lukeoneil47.bsky.social · 5mo ago

I'm sure it's plausible that an "AI" could write something that would trick me. The answer to this going forward is to immediately blacklist any writer who admits to using "AI" upon first mention of it. Like a plagiarist. They will of course admit this because people who use "AI" cannot do otherwise

Season 4 is finally here! Episode One of Season Four will be released on our Patreon feed on the 16th March and to our general feed a week later, starting on the 23rd of March! Episodes will go out biweekly, and they'll be a week earlier on our ad-free Patreon feed.

It's GREAT that because I've finally hit a minimum threshold for self-employed earnings I've got to pay next year's taxes too. Just dandy. It's not like my money is tight because I'm self-employed or anything.

To the establishment the tragedy seems to be that a mother lost her child far far more than a trans girl lost her life and everything that’s followed has been about suring up the ownership and control parents have over their children

Rose Schmits@roseschmits.bsky.social · 9mo ago

Yknow thinking more about MPs championing the no phones in schools thing in Brianna Ghey’s name just how arrogant you gotta be as a cis person not to wonder where all the trans people endorsing your project are at named after a girl murdered for being trans

The biggest “block” writers face is time and money and gatekeeping (by the people who can offer money to give you that time.) I would welcome a day that I didn’t wake up with fourteen great ideas that I simply don’t have the time or money to do properly. AI directly threatens that. It doesn’t help.

Jill Murray@jillmurray.bsky.social · 10mo ago

People who aren’t writers think writer’s block is at least as big and real a problem as I thought quicksand would be, as a child.

Why is Piers Morgan always given so much time and space? Because our media is a relentless circle jerk where people whose main experience is dinner bang on and on about the world they can barely see above their goose pate and Stilton foam

Just realised the reason I couldn't play Horizon Zero Dawn (I tried!) was that I watched Batteries Not Included about a hundred times as a kid. The majority of non-humanoid robots are friend-shaped to me. (I also didn't see ET until adulthood)

The Repair Shop with Werner Herzog: Guest: "Stunning work, thank you" WH: "How do you feel seeing this object, a symbol of your dead wife? Though constructed of crude, worthless materials, it has been resurrected like some cheap miracle, mocking your grief and dead wife, now condemned to oblivion."
