We've decided 9-25 is Dolly's day. We have a month to prepare, and to make this a National if not Global celebration of the best of humanity. Repeat, share, and prepare! Organize a block-party, write a poem, buy some books, sing some music...come together and be good to each other for a day!
my wife has a friend who sent Dolly Parton a painting she made & a letter explaining how much Dolly's music meant to her while she was transitioning. Dolly responded to it personally & paid for her top surgery. Sounds like an urban legend but it's real. I think we're going to more stories like this.
and she's doing something I think is actually in a similar vein to Dolly's philosophy, because she just gives nonprofits unrestricted operating support and trusts them to know how best to spend it. that is WILDLY unusual for any gift over about $100k from anyone, and she's doing it with millions
