damn that's actually sick as hell especially the endothermic part!
1979–2025: A computer can never be held accountable, therefore a computer must never make a management decision. 2026: You will now have weekly meetings with a data entry form that will be fed into Copilot, which will then assign action items and optimize workflows. TBD if it's allowed to fire you.
I remain baffled by people who send long, very professional looking emails that were clearly written by ai. Like, if you can't spend the time to write all of this, why would you expect me to read it?
"At a total process efficiency of around 8%, we would need more than doubled all electricity generation in a year,to pull 1yrs worth of CO2 out of the atmosphere. Direct air capture is not efficient enough, nor will it ever be efficient enough that we can just keep emitting CO2 like we have been"
ICYMI, there was a big discovery in carbon capture tech recently, which could dramatically reduce the energy needed for direct air capture. But there's also a theoretical limit to how efficient DAC could potentially get, and that limit doesn't look great. Our latest video for Reactions. 🧪
i'm so tired of media institutions replacing real, hardworking journalists with hypersexualized bombshells to boost their ratings
New correspondent Ross Douthat says "no story looms larger than the latest developments in artificial intelligence." The technology and its impacts will be a major focus of 60 Minutes reporting.

I wrote this story for Slate 3 years ago. It's an as-told-to perspective from the mom of a trans boy who accessed top surgery in Texas at 14 years old. This is the kind of Texas family who Talarico wants to ban from seeking healthcare. slate.com/technology/2...

Principled politicians should say: Trans girls are girls so they should be able to play sports with other girls. Unfortunately there aren't many principled politicians.
if it took you 5 seconds of contemplation to think of an alternative you should take at least another 5-10 to at least consider the possibility that it at least crossed the minds of 1 or 2 of the people who dedicate their lives and research careers to dealing with the problems we post about on here

SUVs are a perfect example. Research shows that people regularly exposed to SUV advertising are 71% more likely to buy one than those that see them rarely. Whether we like it or not, advertising has a significant influence on the choices we make. 3/6
Advertising drives demand for SUVs - new research says — Badvertising
Today we release new research using sophisticated statistical methods that provides evidence that demand for polluting SUVs is higher when people are exposed to their advertising. Surprisingly, the re...

Breaking News! Code UFB!!! The planet just experienced its hottest August on record, and likely the hottest August in the last 120,000+ years, coming in at 1.64°C above the 1850-1900 preindustrial baseline. Hot times ahead!
Camped in Assateague a couple weeks back and this made the campfire cookies a little more difficult than normal.
anytime people raise concerns about land use for solar projects or anything like that i just want to point out that half the corn we grow in this country gets used to make gasoline slightly worse

DoorDash's letter attacking DC home rule over a 20-cent fee: #DeleteDoorDash
I got the DoorDash letter attacking DC home rule over a 20¢ fee. The letter, which dangerously misrepresents HR 9720 as only applying to tax and fee increases, was written by @lgbtqvictoryfund.bsky.social director John Horton. #freedc

In February, USA Rugby banned trans women from all levels of one of the world’s most inclusive sports. What happened next was telling. Across the country, teams refused to comply. The story of the Baltimore Ferals, who are pushing back: www.thebanner.com/sports/rugby...
Check in with your neighbors. How else can we all help folks who are outside in this mess?
make sure you get to the airport two hours before departure time to allow time to get through TSA, that's the best way to save time over a 2 hour drive or a 1 hour train ride
An airline between Philadelphia and Baltimore is completely fucking asinine especially considering when there’s been rail service between the two cities since 1838.
I wish this "speed cameras are cash grabs" trope would die. We have recent studied in the U.S. showing that after an initial surge in ticketing, fines decline as behavior changes and people speed less.
it's not an own to point out that all these fucking guys trying to deny trans people their hormones are so into HGH and whatnot. they don't care either way about 'gender affirming care.' they want to be he-men and they want trans people to die. to them the two projects are perfectly coherent
Times have changed, I haven't seen a single crab rave gif this morning.
