It's important to note that this is a common ICE tactic. When it's clear that an immigrant in custody is deathly ill, ICE "releases" them from custody—usually when they are hospitalized. It's not a humanitarian approach; it's so the agency doesn't have to claim the person as an in-custody death.

One of my fatal flaws while writing in academic or academic-adjacent is assuming that people want to learn and understand important terms (like oligomenorrhea and amenorrhea, when defined in text) and will actually look at the items in the reference list.
