clinical psychology PhD student @uofmemphis substance use, integrated care, pragmatic implementation he/him

Somehow missed that NSFGRFP will no longer consider clinical psychology students (regardless of the focus of the project?). Any recommendations for alternative funding mechanisms for post-bacc and early doctoral students? Want to create a list for our postbaccs and PhD students #AcademicSky

The only socially acceptable position here regarding AI is that it's total crap and will never improve. Completely divorced from reality. But Blueskyers don't want to face reality. I understand that many feel threatened by AI, but denialism and uninformed attacks on experts are counterproductive.

reality check 🤔😕😢@realitycheck.bsky.social · last yr.

I'm not sure AI is good for humanity. I think it could very well be catastrophic. But it's useful, for many tasks, and getting better. It's not going away, much as we might like it to. And the longer we Blueskyers disparage it, the longer we exclude ourselves from the conversation.

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.

In this beautiful, illustrated essay, Brager invites us to think about what we owe to the wildlife whose habitats we've utterly altered and to consider alternatives to killing our way out of "problem" Mute swans and other wildlife: therevelator.org/invasive-swa.... #birds #wildlife 🌎

As ecologists debate what to do about “invasive” swans in New York City, volunteers fight to keep them alive.

Heartbroken for my colleague @kgamarel.bsky.social After decades of NIH support, HIV research network gets funding back—but Kristi's study on trans youth of color is singled out & cut Essential research for most vulnerable—lost 🙏 Powerful reporting @stephaniemlee.bsky.social in @chronicle.com

An NIH Grant Is Restored, With a Catch: Cut a Study on Trans Youth

HIV scientists were given a choice: eliminate a study of transgender youth or lose a shot to recover a larger series of grants. They chose the former.

All NIDA F31 diversity scholars officially losing their funding... I barely have words. Expected at this point but so so disappointing and unfair. We are effectively punishing some of America's best science students for telling the government they are from an underrepresented community.

“And I’m like, what do you mean, you ‘do your own research’? You running a double-blind study in your living room, dawg?” - A guy walking ahead of me with his friends on a NYC sidewalk in 2021, also my favorite overheard dialogue of the entire pandemic

NYT headline: “Kennedy Advises New Parents to ‘Do Your Own Research’ on Vaccines”
Subheader:
“In an interview with Dr. Phil, the health secretary offered false information about vaccine oversight and revealed a lack of basic understanding of new drug approvals.”

You can’t say criminals don’t deserve due process when due process is the thing that decides if they're criminals. Otherwise you're just kidnapping people you don't like.

Threats to federal funding have created uncertainty for the future of #science & scientific research. In this OpEd, @ninachristie.bsky.social writes about the need to stand up for science, having organized local rallies on this issue herself. Albuquerque Journal: www.abqjournal.com/opinion/arti...
