V Jihlavě jsem se mezi řečí dozvěděl, že Mileně už loni (!) vyšel druhý díl Dějin českých dějin umění. Těším se na to moc!

The first time I saw Patrick Stewart in person was at the Cambridge Union. He talked movingly about how, as a kid for whom the formal education system did nothing, he had sat on a hill looking down on his school on a day he was supposed to take an exam - and how he'd got from there to here.

Preliminary results from an on campus student AI report are out. They're consistent with my observations and may surprise some of you: - 1/3 of students never use AI tools - Majority of students hold negative attitudes toward AI - Majority of them think AI harms environment, society, and themselves
I provided detailed AI-use guidelines for the project in my undergrad class, and I can report that there was no noticeable sign of unauthorized AI use in presentations or reports. Based on other accounts on here, I feel that this is now the exception? My students pretty much followed my guidance.

i think it was @diplomatofnight.com who said "if given a choice between 'listen to the arab parties' and 'end democracy', most israelis will choose the latter in a heartbeat" and while i didn't think that was wrong it's crazy to see it happen so fast

One of my staple pieces of advice for new PhD students is that doing a PhD requires a shift from knowledge consumption to knowledge production. This can actually be surprisingly hard, especially for good students.

„Pro Poláky je Lvov dodnes důležitější než Vratislav,“ říká Zbigniew Rokita, autor knihy Odřanie. Proč mnozí Poláci dodnes nevnímají někdejší německá území jako skutečné Polsko? Čtěte rozhovor o přehlíženém regionu i proměnách polské identity. www.voxpot.cz/clanky/pro-p...

Zatímco v Česku lidé po druhé světové válce zabydlovali Sudety po Němcích, v Polsku se ve stejné době hromadně stěhovali za řeku Odru do takzvané Odřanie, regionu, který dodnes mnoho Poláků nevnímá…

The thing about RFK Jr is that he’s not just a eugenicist who peddles extreme and dangerous anti-science, anti-vaccine conspiracy theories that cause suffering, pain, and death, but he’s also a vile racist piece of s**t
RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."
Very interesting preprint on how badly LLMs do peer review "All tested LLMs lacked both sensitivity to errors and specificity, recommending major revision or rejection for papers [...] published in top journals" The tendency to reject is influenced by the prompt, with "revisions" judged favorably
LLMs, asked to "peer" review 200 papers published this year in top science and medicine journals, either rejected or recommended major revisions 76% of the time. Telling the LLMs the paper was a revision paper made them much more generous. arxiv.org/abs/2610.31414
Pod tou skálou III tentokrát v lehkém fantasy módu. Nejdřív lampionový průvod Jinonice-Smíchov a pak koncert na vrchu Skalka s Jiřím Wehlem (!), Ginger Wizard a A/C. Já myslím, že to bude dobré. Celé to bude tentokrát taky benefice pro Resistance support club: resistance.support
Just saw NAZA. Holocaust-level evil, only probably more cruel. Go see it.
This is such a fantastic photo: "The Witches' Tea Party" but I want to use it to explain the origin of the tall, pointy witches hat. The real story of this photo: These are residents at the Hospital of the Holy & Undivided Trinity: an almshouse in Castle Rising, Norfolk, England established 1610.
I will not forget that Zuckerberg and Facebook shut down the accounts of the most popular presidential candidate in one of the largest democracies in the world, and he was elected anyway

Currently wondering what message the UK govt thought it was sending by dressing up the Minister for Net Zero in a literal Shell logo.
Who is the capitalist class? This new calculation shows that only about 1% of humanity has income from capital ownership greater than the median wage in their country. The rest of us - 99% of the world's population - live mostly on wage labour. Sources here: globalinequality.org/global-incom...
Almost all photosynthetic light is supported by visible light - in fact we long thought there was a strict “red-limit” for photosynthesis. A few special chlorophylls exist that allow only rare cyanobacteria to do photosynthesis with the lower energy part of the spectrum.
