Today 🇨🇦 announced the 64 scholars recruited from top US universities for the Canada Global Impact+ Chairs. They sounds like great scientists. But the enormous level of funding funnelled to this program is jaw-dropping when compared to the pitiful success rates at CIHR.

Due to my role at the Terry Fox Research Institute I no longer comment publically on CIHR but this largest funder of Canadian health research made an important statement today: cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/54795.html and I can’t just watch this beloved agency crash.
What we heard: Strengthening the long-term sustainability of the Project Grant program - CIHR
The purpose of this phase of our engagement has not been to make or announce decisions. It has been to build a shared understanding of the pressures facing the system and to hear from applicants, reviewers and institutions on possible interventions and their implications.

Definitely a legend! It had been a privilege to learn so much from Jim while I was doing my post doc next door.
Legendary myosin researcher Jim Sellers retires after many years of making significant contributions to the field and being an unfailingly generous to colleagues - alway sharing materials, insights and wisdom. A symposium honoring Jim will be held in Sept. www.nhlbi.nih.gov/events/2026/...

Have you ever heard that women have more chances than men of getting grants or positions in academia? Of course you have, and here are my personal views on this. With the shocking revelation that no, it is NOT TRUE ! (1/n)
