Anyone ever tried one of the portable induction hobs (eg from IKEA) and can tell me how they compare with regular induction? I hate cooking at my mum’s house cause her glass hob is so slow. Everything takes longer and you’ve got to be so careful not to burn things. www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/till...

I love the German language. Son and friends were discussing how waves and tsunamis form and one of them said ‘Das juckt ihn doch nicht, der Erdboden’. Literally ‘it itches him not, the earth’.

Mum was transcribing handwritten notes from a 90 year old member of her walking group and it was taking hours. I took a photo, extracted text, told AI to transcribe and 'tidy up' the text. Reviewed critically and edited mistakes. Took 5 minutes. Mum: That's why you have less work these days then.

Berlin folk (again!) Anyone around for a coffee/wein/bier/cuppa in September. I'm sending my auld wifies on a hop-on-hop-off bus tour on 8th, so would have time then to meet up. Seriously considering doing a Bulli tour if anyone wants to join me. t1-berlin.de/sightseeing-...

This has made me so angry. It's time NHS staff were properly protected from these people who should be banned from accessing NHS treatment. Let them pay for a 'white' clinician if they want one so badly (and hopefully they'll struggle to find one- be an ally!) news.sky.com/story/nhs-st...

Other random Scotland observations – Britain drivers are buying lots of Chinese EVs. I’d be worried about spending a lot of money on an unestablished brand. And we saw lots of dead deer by the roads – much more than in previous visits.

I withdraw my comment from last week re the dualling of the A9 not happening fast enough. We drove the wee roads that day and somehow missed the MASSIVE construction project south of Dunkeld. I reckon every excavator and dozer in Scotland is there.

Massive construction site with lots of heavy machinery A dozer creeps cautiously down a steep slope where an excavator and a lorry are waiting An enormous rock that the construction crew has left for passing drivers to admire

In other Scotland news – midges appeared for about 1 minute this evening. They must have seen my husband because they quickly disappeared. 35 years visiting Scotland, 4 years living here and he’s only seen them twice. And even then, they weren’t bad. He’s thinks we are exaggerating.

Went to a POW camp not far from Dundee and found a mention of Würzburg – a former prisoner wrote to a family he met while in Scotland about his life back home being terrible, but he’s thankful to have a roof over his head. In comparison to those in Würzburg or Frankfurt.

When the Americans marched in they took possession of my house as they did thousands of others. My wife had to get out in 30 Minutes. They were not allowed to take anything with them except very necessary things. My wife slept the first nights in a Summer-house till she was able to go, on foot, to her parents. There were good & bad among the Americans, some took care of the houses & furniture, others destroyed things, or took them away. in my house much was destroyed & stolen. So I have lost all my nice carpets & no one can say where they have gone. But I can be glad that I have my house still & a roof over my head.
One can cry when one sees other towns, Würzburg, Frankfurt etc, they are in ruins & under the ruins thousands lay buried. Rats etc live here in masses, & still as many people live in these towns as there used to be before the War. This, an everlasting riddle how they live. A row of Nissen huts under a cloudy sky The entrance to a hut

I have just been sent the transcript of a deposition my grandmother gave in 1977 while she was serving as an expert witness in a series of tribal rights cases and let me tell you, if nothing else this is proof that I come by it honest for every conceivable value of “it”

I also love the statement ‘I find that question so convoluted and loaded that I couldn’t answer it unless it was written out phrase by phrase’. Great way to answer someone who is deliberately trying to confuse or bait you into answering unwisely.

“I don’t comprehend the internal inconsistencies which seem to have been so forcibly impressed upon your mind” is such a gentle yet steely way to say “ok so yeah you’re full of shit”

I wonder, Doctor, if I could ask you the
question and Counsel could forebear, and we'll grant they have a continuing objection. Do you not agree with me there is some internal inconsistency in interpreting the
Treaty of 1836 to include a
reservation or reservations
for five years or perhaps
somewhat longer for those areas
that are most important to the Indians, to include for at least those Indians living south of the Straits of
Mackinac an obvious intention that those Indians will be
removed from Michigan, with an interpretation of Article 13 which reserves to those Indians a perpetual right to
fish in the Great Lakes in those areas which were not as
of as great importance to the Indians as those that were

reserved for a lesser period of time? Do you find any inconsistency there?
A. I find that question so convoluted and loaded that I couldn't answer it unless it was written out phrase by
phrase. I don't -- I've read this Ireaty, I don't find any . . . I don't comprehend the intemal inconsistencies which seem to have been so
• forcibly impressed upon your
mind
