I also find it fucking hilarious that the AI stans are like "your kids will be left behind if they don't use it" as if it's harder to type a prompt into a text box to ask someone else to do your work than it is to read and understand a book or learn mathematics on your own. Foh.

It is an affirmative, positive choice by those in charge to use this method. To have it behave this way. They have seen the results and they accept them. It is THEIR CHOICE.

The truth was that if United Health had an AI that was accepting a shitload of claims with a 90% error rate, United Health would stop using the AI in about 0.2 seconds.

The AI industry wants you to say "the AI just did that thing on its own!" Like, United Health's AI that's denying a shitload of claims with a 90% error rate? They wanted you to think it's just the AI.

I wrote this quickly at a bus stop and didn't realize it would go viral, or else I would have worded it better. But the point is that the media is too credulous about AI killing everyone in 10 years (how?) when climate change is killing people now and will only get worse (we know exactly how).

I resigned from ExxonMobil today. I spent the last three years doing fossil fuel extraction research at both BP and ExxonMobil. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing to maximize extraction while the window to act closes, and gambling with our lives. More below.

but andrew polls show voters disagree “voters have been bombarded on this issue with hateful rhetoric for the last decade by people like you. polling shows they have ‘concerns’ but theyre not voting on that issue and i refuse to throw a marginalized community under the bus to try and win votes”

so youre in favor of trans kids playing high school sports? “i find it absolutely disgusting and weird how obsessed you are with children’s genitals. but yes, i believe children should be allowed to play high school sports, a thing that has been happening for decades without issue or controversy”

but people have concerns “none of the people i talk to ever bring this up, just republicans and the journalists like you who regurgitate any republican attack in an attempt to both-sides an election”

For anyone who has ever struggled with putting IKEA furniture together, this is for you. These two pictures (apparently real IKEA ads at some point) are currently on display at Someset House, as part of an actual Esher art exhibition.

I don't think it should be controversial to say, "we will not provide financial or military assistance to a country where the Minister of National Security brags about popping people's dreams of 'food' and 'education' then sending them to a prison where they are starved."

Ben Gvir posted this video on twitter today which shows fat and happy Palestinians on a conveyer built going through the Israeli "prison" (torture camp) system and coming out emaciated and maudlin. This is textbook genocidal content.

not sure the grassroots advocacy enthusiasm for transit in the portland region has been this strong in decades. i hope whatever touching-of-the-stove our region experiences from these hideous service cuts is enough to force politicians to respond in kind and restore/expand service in the years ahead
