This is very good advice, even if the true problem is at the cultural and systemic level rather than at the individual level. We write too much because academic culture and system value quantity over quality. And this quantity clogs the system, further weakening the quality.

Lots of writing advice is about procrastination or writer’s block. We worry & develop routines to tackle it. But what if our problem is the opposite? What if we write too much? Too many emails, posts, essays, papers. We have become very good at making ourselves write, perhaps too good. 🧵

Sometimes society at large rejects certain ideas because they’ve been thoroughly shown to be wrong and also because they suck and the people who espouse them suck and when someone comes around arguing those ideas should be part of some edgy modern debate we can and should shun them and move on.

The United States and Canada have been friends, partners, and allies for more than 150 years across 32 presidential administrations. And now, solely because of the arrogance, incompetence, and ego of the current occupant of the White House, that relationship is being driven straight toward a cliff.
