It's #buyastrangerabook day. A day people buy each other books, because they can and they are lovely (you can do this too!). @redwellyfeats.bsky.social has bought a copy of Super-Frog Saves Tokyo by Haruki Murakami for me to give away to one lucky person. If you'd like it, get in touch! UK only

Murakami's book.

A lavishly illustrated edition of Murakami’s classic story. Katagiri found a giant frog waiting for him in his apartment. It was powerfully built, standing over six feet tall on its hind legs.

A skinny little man no more than five foot three, Katagiri was overwhelmed by the frog's imposing bulk. ‘Call me “Frog,”’ said the frog in a clear, strong voice. Fully illustrated and beautifully designed, this special edition of Murakami’s celebrated short story sees the bewildered Katagiri find meaning in his humdrum life through joining forces with Frog in an effort to save Tokyo from an existential threat.

Been reading about terror birds. They died out about 100,000 years ago, were up to 10 feet tall, 350 kg, flightless, could run faster than an ostrich, and had sharp sickle toes for grabbing prey and huge beaks for jabbing them to death. And people complain about gulls.

A terror bird skeleton. Big head, big feet, long neck.
