Back to our regularly scheduled resistance, we bring you I am My Art by Ayida Shonibar where love and art can topple empires. I think what I enjoyed about this piece, alongside the fantastic imagery is that love is the baseline here regardless of everything else. #resist

My flash piece—on crafting the statues of colonisers and toppling them—is now free to read! I'm so honoured and delighted to have this story first published in the Luminescent Machinations anthology by @neonhemlock.bsky.social and now shared through Flash Fiction Online's iconic RESIST anthology!!

My heart has been with Black British academics all day. It's my friend's story to tell, but one of the most horrific stories I know about a Black doctorate's journey was over in the UK. The United States is its own "rough beast." But they, they're dealing with the beast's mother. My God.

The only conversation worth having is how Black people are overpoliced & over-punished & held to different standards in all aspects of life. That there is an outrage when Black people transgress that isn’t there when their non-Black counterparts do.

I’m not trying to hear about plagiarism from people who can’t get anything done without AI. You’re disqualified on this one. That plagiarism is bad is supposed to be a settled social belief. AI use muddies the whole thing.

“I always start with the face. So I don’t forget the kind of monsters they have us commemorate.” Our midweek read, “I Am My Art” by Ayida Shonibar, is part of our RESIST anthology. @ayidashonibar.bsky.social #artisresistance #resist #flashfiction flashfictiononline.com/issues/resis...

This ecological, diasporic frog & scorpion fable retelling is one of my more experimental pieces: non-linear, shifting voice/perspective, skating around science & speculation. I wrote it for people boxed into stereotypes by condemnations like "It's in your nature." tasavvurnama.com/in-their-nat...

In Their Nature - Tasavvur

In Their Nature is a South Asian Speculative Fiction story written by Ayida Shonibar for the Summer 2026 edition of Tasavvur magazine.

Ayida Shonibar's 'In Their Nature' is a beautifully unsettling story where the ordinary takes an uncanny turn. Read the full story on the website. [🔮: #tasavvurnama #speculativefiction #southasian #fyp #summerissue] Issue 16, south asian literature, speculative fiction magazine, writing community

I can't describe what it means to see such in-depth analysis of my writing—including extensive, thoughtful research into the various folklore traditions, historical references, & sociocultural themes in my story (from the Bram Stoker Award-winning anthology edited by @garnetonwinter.bsky.social!) 🖤✨️

"If people are going to call you inhuman, and treat you as monsters, wouldn’t it be tempting, sometimes, to prove them right?" Reading the Weird is playing with fire in Ayida Shonibar's "An Unholy Terroir," first published in Silk and Sinew: A Collection of Folk Horror From the Asian Diaspora!

So honoured to be included in Flash Fiction Online's timely collection, alongside this amazing lineup, with my story "I Am My Art," which is about crafting the statues of colonisers—and toppling them. 🔥
